ACPD - Mostly Useless?

Hey, Yupette,

Thanks for this blog.

Wonder what the Arlington County Police Department has been up to lately?

Just the usual. Setting up speed traps on lightly traveled arterials, defending malls, convenience stores, fast food restaurants, from shoplifters and disorderly persons. Chasing people out of parks and onto crowded sidewalks and trails. Responding to actions by persons of no fixed address with behavioral health issues. Ignoring any and all reckless behavior by persons riding bicycles, scooters, and skateboards, including reckless endangerment of children.

You would think with schools closed, courts closed, much less motor vehicle traffic, we would finally see community policing, meaning ACPD actually patrolling our neighborhoods. No way. Except for the aforementioned speed traps ACPD is even less visible than 6 months ago.

Check out the weekly crime reports in the Arlington media and you'll notice that ACPD solves few opportunistic crimes, leading me to stay away from places where opportunistic crimes occur. You should also.

Mountain bikers are inflicting massive damage on Arlington's wooded parks but ACPD can't do anything about it because the County Board Chair, Libby Garvey, is a bicycle fanatic.

Destruction of public property? Latest thing ACPD won't enforce. Last CB Meeting there were several complaints about wooded parks being destroyed by mountain bikers.

Stay off the trails! Very dangerous.

It's deliberate. IF ACPD were patrolling neighborhoods, patrolling parks on bicycles, and engaged in other "community policing" activities they would either have to arrest people or be seen just sitting in their cruisers doing nothing.

It's all part of the New Urbanism ideology where streets, sidewalks, trails etc., are constantly repurposed into recreation spaces for residents of mixed use infill. Ever notice about 95% of bicycle-scooter-skateboard riding is recreational?

ACPD officers spend their first 5 years on the force playing Rambo. About 80% of those who remain on the force spend the next 20 years hanging out and hiding out.

I nominate Libby Garvey as the Millennial Moron's Mom of the Year --- and we're only 4 months thru the year !!

Millennials Totally SUCK -- whether threatening us with their bicycles, skateboards, and e-scooters or with their Jeeps, SUVs and BMWs. I am 59 years old and I am one of many who's afraid to walk on the sidewalk in my own neighborhood.

Earth to Arlington Millennials: Vibrant Creative Class Arlington is DEAD. Buy a fixer-up single family home with a big back yard and raise your kids there, not on my sidewalk, street, front lawn, driveway.

Check out how many times ACPD responds to calls about delivery vehicles parked and obstructing bicycle lanes.

Arlington's Public Safety VIPs don't live in Arlington, so what can you expect?

Anonymous said...

Correct. ACPD patrol officers would have to arrest parents who push strollers across 6 lanes of traffic running a red light and parents who run traffic lights and stop signs with kids on bikes or scooters. It's called Reckless Endangerment. No police on foot or on bicycles seen patrolling the parks that mountain bikers are destroying. All ACPD seems to do is respond to the same 5 events, like homeless person with behavioral health issues in a convenience store.

Today is Cinco de Mayo...see what happens.

Advice:

Driving in Arlington has become like driving across a large zoo with outdoor open space and a lot of animals. I drive to Fairfax County to shop. Still suburban there (for how long?).

Also, if I shop in Arlington I schedule weekly shopping for rainy days when the numerous bicycle-scooter-skateboard recreational fanatics are off the streets.

The personal mobility fanatics are out-of-control in Arlington. I blame the Bicyclists' Fairy Godmother Libby Garvey.

How many ACPD officers does it take to apprehend one hungry homeless man who steals a sandwich from a deli market? About 4.

Anonymous said...

Public Service Announcement - ACPD and State Police are busy with speed traps on lightly traveled interstates and major arterials.

Anonymous said...

Bicycle fanatics are just as reckless driving their SUVs.

A.Y. you should let it go...Arlington has gone from bad to worse for years and nothing will improve while one political party is in complete control.

Libby Garvey's been in public office continuously for 25 years, School Board and County Board. Result? School system's a mess and County government's a mess.

Yuppies - Bad
Millennials - Worse
Gen Z - The Worst

Creative Class? Millennials are Morons.

How many ACPD officers does it take to apprehend one Gen Z delinquent who's trying door handles on parked autos at midnight? About 17, plus 8 dogs, plus one helicopter.

A.Y., aka Cindy, I second the motion that you let it go. Arlington is, in fact, "Hong Kong on the Potomac" and anything anyone says to challenge the status quo is disparaged and dismissed.

Where are the police? They are not in the schools, not in court, not in parks, not at rec centers, not in my neighborhood. Only place I see them is hiding in cruisers just off 4 lane divided arterials where there is almost no traffic stopping motorists for speeding.

Watch out for speed traps where drivers have to suddenly decelerate from 55 to 45. One is on Wash Blvd at Ft Myer and another is on I-66 before you drive into the Rosslyn tunnel.

Democrats at the state and local level are actually hoping that Donald Trump is re-elected so they can campaign against him every year for the next 4 years.

Where are the police? Investigating the murders that are starting to regularly occur in Arlington.

What's worse than a Millennial Moron running traffic lights and stop signs on a bicycle without slowing down? The same Millennial Moron driving his SUV with two mountain bikes on the back through traffic lights and stop signs without slowing down.

On his way to destroy a park's open space with the mountain bikes.

Saw ACPD today ignoring bikesters running traffic lights at high speed and stopping motorists with expired registrations. Useless. Worthless. Hopeless.

ACPD is worthless when it comes to apprehending suspects in grab-and-go crimes.

I did my weekly shopping while it was raining this morning. Drive to the plaza was almost pleasant.

I am seeing ACPD cruisers parked in my neighborhood for a week and more without moving. These are the vehicles ACPD drives every day not the old Ford Crown Victoria cruisers. What are the cops doing? They're not pursuing marijuana users any longer.

Anonymous said...

Both ACPD and Metro Police sit in cruisers and SUVs at the Ballston Metro station watching jaywalkers and scofflaw bikesters for hours.

Anonymous said...

ACPD responds to the same few events. Top 2 are "persons with no fixed address with behavioral health issues" and shoplifting. Providing shopping mall security is a close third.

Anonymous said...

Successor to the Millennial Morons are the Gen Z Zombies...who repeatedly try door handles of parked cars in residential neighborhoods at midnight until they are caught by ACPD from too many car alarms going off.

abc123 said...

ACPD also immediately responds to reports of parking violations,

Anonymous said...

It's warm and drizzling rain. No bicycles seen anywhere. Personal mobility vehicles are for recreation. What happens when the bicycle fanatics persuade the County Board to close residential streets for bicycle events, including racing? Stay tuned.

Anonymous said...

AY...Lots of Arlington residents over about 40 are dismayed about the County's future and are looking for alternatives.

Anonymous said...

I also see ACPD vehicles parked on the street in the same place for days. How much of the force is working from home?

Anonymous said...

I would say ACPD employees except those who answer calls for service want as little contact with the public as possible. Few live in Arlington.

Another week of crime reports and it's obvious juvenile and adult delinquents know to get away from whatever illegal action they were engaged in as far and as fast as they can.

LOL - Chief Farr who gave a long-winded speech on ArlNow today lives closer to West Virginia than to Arlington.

Anonymous said...

Gen Z's are breaking into and vandalizing neighborhood schools, according to ACPD crime reports.

Anonymous said...

Right now Gen Zs and their helicopter parents are driving each other nuts.

ACPD - Most recently seen chasing Millennial / Gen Z rioters in DC.

Chief Farr is retiring in December, per the Arl County Board meeting on 6/13.

ACPD is on the defensive. ACPD officers are being physically attacked. Thanks to the Luxus Liberals and their Local Media Shills, who trade endorsements of the status quo for ad revenue.

Seattle on the Potomac....Sooner Than You Think?

Anonymous said...

Marijuana has been decriminalized. Schools are closed. Where is ACPD this Summer? Not in residential neighborhoods doing community policing.

Hong Kong on the Potomac, sooner than we think.
