Check Your Insurance Coverage Before Spring

Hello,

It's been a mild winter (so far). Another month until Spring. More than obvious that we're going to see multi-modal mayhem on Arlington's streets, sidewalk, plazas, and trails, if not this year by about 2023.

Arlington's been on a "More Cars-More Vehicles-More Vehicle Trips" diet for decades, whether it's free range bicycles or free range SUVs. Latest is free range scooters. Don't expect multi-modal safety initiatives by anyone in authority. It will get worse as streets and sidewalks are repurposed for in-fill recreation that goes along with in-fill redevelopment with no new usable open spaces. County Board Chair Libby Garvey is a bicycle fanatic and can't do enough for what's become a bicycle cult.

Best thing (we think) for anyone who drives a motor vehicle sensibly and also runs or walks is to stay away from major arterials, off trails, and not drive during rush hours, if that's possible. Also check your insurance coverage because many bike riders and scooter riders don't have insurance. Have a safe Spring. A.Y.

Bike fanatics want wider trails so they do group rides and race.

I telecommute to work on Wednesdays and take a couple hours mid-day for grocery shopping.

Libby Garvey is to bicycles as Jay Fisette was to live theater and aquatics.

Advice for 2020 and Beyond: Don't walk or run on Arlington's trails.

Concur. When trails are widened there will be more bicycle racing and bigger group bicycle rides on the trails.

I made sure last year when e-scooters were approved that I have enough homeowners insurance to protect me from e-scooter scofflaws if I'm hit and hurt. But that won't compensate me for pain and suffering and perhaps a permanent injury.

What are Arlington Police doing? The usual. Protecting and serving shopping malls, strip plazas, fast food restaurants, and bars.

Libby Garvey has been Urban Village Idiot of the Year the past 3 years. Erik Gutshall has been runner-up.

Half of what ACPD responds to - especially on weekends - is related to shoplifting, fights, assaults, and car thefts at malls.

The County Board not only has no consideration for the safety of Arlington's pedestrians but e-scooter accidents with injuries have added to the stress of ACFD firefighters who are already stressed from many calls for service in and around the County.

My health insurance company pays for EVERYTHING. Like a dog off-leash bites me, or if an e-scooter hits me. Why my health insurance premiums are sky high and increasing.

Don't want to be hit by a bicycle or e-scooter while walking on the sidewalk? Don't re-elect Libby Garvey.

ACPD is too bogged down with minor-to-major league complaints called in to 911 to bother about traffic safety.

ACPD is too busy protecting and serving Ballston Quarter and Pentagon City Malls.

Libby Garvey serves on the Board of Phoenix Bikes, the guys you see zooming around on sidewalks. She also drives around in a big SUV telling everyone to ride bicycles.

Libby is another pol who should have retired 10 years ago....to pursue her favored interests, like bicycles, bicycles, bicycles.

I telecommute on Friday and wish I could telecommute every day. So much less stressful.

Then there's Millennial Mommy Katie Cristol zooming around like the other Millennial Mommies in big SUVs while talking on cell phones.

If and when there is "traffic enforcement" in Arlington it will be targeted at motor vehicles.

If you don't have an umbrella policy you might consider purchasing that increased coverage.

I just upped my auto insurance coverage.

Multi-modal mayhem is here...bicycle cult is racing in residential neighborhoods and zooming through stop signs.

My for-profit employer is going to reduce office space so I volunteered to work from home. I won't have to endure the crazy commute any longer.
