Jay's Next Jam -- 4MRV Performing Arts District

Hey Yupette,

Twenty years of Gentrification Jay, aka Gourmet Jay, Fisette...Enough. So what does he do for an encore after two decades of facilitating doggie spas, live theater, and aquatics...everywhere? Anyone who's been around for awhile will remember the various antics Jay and his former domestic partner, now spouse, Robert Rosen pulled on behalf of the Signature Theater, ranging from the lengthy and convoluted theater-library planning process in Shirlington to the multiple taxpayer-funded financial bailouts of the Signature over the years.

So, what Jay's planning now, together with Arlington's various live theater and performing arts groups, is nothing less than a performing arts district in the western portion of the Four Mile Run Valley that will share the entire 4MRV with the sports and recreation groups. Never mind the businesses located in the 4MRV and the neighbors who want businesses like motor vehicle repair (and the good-paying jobs that go with the businesses) to stay in the 4MRV. Everything that isn't bulldozed will be renovated and repurposed for sports, recreation, and entertainment. Promises were made a year ago over lunch at Busboys and Poets.

That's when Jay isn't spending time at his retirement estate on Florida's Trump Coast. So hold on to your wallets after tax-paying small businesses are gentrified out to be replaced by taxpayer-funded and taxpayer-subsidized sports, recreation, and entertainment venues. The 4MRV is another target of New Urbanists who deliberately allowed public and private infrastructure (like the Signature's off-site scenery shop, owned by the County) to deteriorate for decades to facilitate re-development.

Look for plans for a 525-seat Synetic Theatre in FMRV.

Look for plans for a Field House with a 400 meter indoor track and one or more swimming pools. Also, a doggie spa with an indoor pool.

This post would be funny if it weren't so close to the truth.

Also, the 400 Meter track will be used for bicycle races.

How much will it cost the County to move the cement plant and Dominion's power substation?

As a matter of fact, the General Assembly just passed legislation allowing multi-jurisdiction arts districts to be created.

There is funding in the County's FY 18 budget for one new Economic Development employee to facilitate small business development.

Arts district or no arts district, City of Alexandria has to pay if it wants Alexandria residents to play in 4MRV.

Yeah, Jay's next gig, when he's not hanging out with the Palm Beach LGBTQ arts crowd, is facilitating more tax dollars for more performing arts groups in Arlington.

About right - 1 employee in AED helping small businesses, 60 employees cutting corporate welfare deals with the likes of Nestle'.

Whomever owns Busboys and Poets will see a big jump in income from all the give away deals to performing arts groups made over lunch.

Surprise....Surprise...the new Wilson Elementary School (cost $100 million) will include a black box theater.

Dilapidated County-owned building in the photo (Signature's original theater) - obviously going to be torn down and replaced by new performing arts infrastructure. Also owned by the County and leased to whom for how much per year?

Whatever will Arlington do without Gourmet Jay's ceaseless efforts to make Arlington the pinnacle of Limo Liberal LGBTQ Correctness, at taxpayers' expense?

Dear Susie,
That warehouse has been used as a scene shop and scenery warehouse for years. Check your facts please.

Next 4MRV charade meeting is on March 7th at the Trades Center Parks and Rec Conference Center.

Old deteriorated Signature building is owned by the County and Signature uses it at no cost. Part of the give-away bailout of the Signature and the Upscale Elite who mismanaged the Signature for years.

Arlington LGBTQ Elite has partied for 20 years at taxpayers' expense. Good riddance to Jay Fi$ette.

It gets worse -- Fisette's pet dog owners are whining that the $1.2 million Clarendon dog spa doesn't meet their needs and they want a bigger and better dog spa on Four Mile Run they can all drive to.

Anonymous said...

How much would it cost the County to send a crew from the Trades Center to pressure wash the brick on the building and paint the doors and windows?

Anonymous said...

The Dog is God crowd will pack the next 4MRV meeting demanding a Taj Mahal dog spa from a County Board that can't say no to any special interest no matre what the cost.

Why should Fisette care? He's going to disappear like his tax-borrow-spend predecessors leavinmg us with 20 years of a mixed-use mess.

Arlington is where the Trump Haters live. Look at their priorities: affordable housing that isn't affordable, extravagant spending for basic infasstructure, and a car-free diet that puts thousands more vehicles on the streets every year.

Surprise...Surprise. Nothing about small business on the March 7th 4MRV agenda.

Anonymous said...

How much does it cost Arlington's taxpayers to bring Dover-Kohl here to spend months and months facilitating done-deals made years ago over lunch at Busboys and Poets?

Anonymous said...

Why won't County Staff live in the County? Because they make $120,000 and up destroying the County with urban in-fill, neighborhood by neighborhood.

Anonymous said...

Some do live in the County...in exclusive enclaves like A$hton Heights.

Anonymous said...

County's Buildings in the Trades Center are also becoming run down and need painting and pressure washing.

Tonight's 4MRV meeting all they wanted to talk about was who gets the $$$ from the County - dog is god lobby, performing arts lobby or sports lobby.

Anonymous said...

Last night's (March 15th) 4MRV meeting was yet another indication all the small businesses will be bought out or pushed out and the FMRV will go to the REITS, dogs, performing arts, and organized sports.

What I find unconscionable is County Board members approve all manner of corporate welfare and give-aways and then retire and are never seen or heard from again and apparently spend as little time in Arlington as possible.

CB assured everyone today that no option for 4MRV is off the table.

All the dog comments here are inaccurate. The dog owners who use the park only want the plain, functional park there today to stay and NOT be replaced with a Clarendon-like debacle of a park. They are fighting AGAINST any plans to turn it into an "arts walk", move it and make it smaller with the "upgrades" like in Clarendon. Just leave it alone, and keep it clean, functional, and maintained...most of which is done today by volunteers.

Anonymous said...

Wrong. Dog owners will get an expensive "industrial design" dog park that will cost several million to construct in-line with the tens of millions that will be expended tearing down the existing industrial buildings and replacing then with "industrial design" sports, recreation, and arts infrastructure.

When does my street get repaved?

County is already working to buy the industrial buildings along Four Mile Run Drive between Shirlington Road and the old Signature Theater building.
