I gotta wonder what's next for the Reeves Farm farmhouse. None of the groups that expressed interest in saving the farmhouse for historic purposes could raise the $2 million or so needed to create a museum or historic learning center. As we all know, there is no real philanthropy in Arlington, so some wealthy person isn't going to come forward to buy and restore the farmhouse and turn it over to the County or a non-profit.
Which leaves the County. Same Arlington County that just went $1.9 million over budget for five 1-block residential street improvement projects. Same County where Parks and Rec pays $800,000 to tear down a perfectly good home next to a park to create a vacant lot. Same County that just gave Nestle' a $6 million relocation gift. Same County that's building $500,000 bus shelters that don't shelter (reduced from $1 million). Same County that gives APAH tens of millions to build affordable housing that's not affordable to the working class who work in restaurants and retail next door to, or across the street from, the affordable housing. And so on.
So, Arlington being Arlington, I have to wonder who will finally own the Reeves farmhouse. I have to believe it's will be someone VERY politically connected who was promised the farmhouse years ago. Guess we will have to stay tuned for news.

You forgot the $2 million black box theater in the new $100 million Taj Mahal elementary school the County Board approved a few days ago.
This is another expensive charade like the ongoing Four Mile Run Valley redevelopment charade.
As I posted on this blog years ago, this will be someone's real estate office or law office.
This dates back to a promise or promises made in the Zimmerman Era. Why is County Government still honoring such promises?
You forgot the $25 million Boating Activities Center in Rosslyn that's another done-deal for the rowers and kayakers.

Nest $2 million planning charade? No brainer - facilites advisory committee going around the County re-purposing residential neighborhoods to accommodate "development for the sake of development" antics by the County's Urban Village Idiots.
Several years ago the County Board decided it wasn't going to spend a lot of time talking about done deals with developers and special interests at County Board meetings. So millions are spent on staff time and to hire consultants to 'facilitate' each done deal over the course of months and years until opponents aka residents of suburban neighborhoods are worn down to the point they stop attending planning meetings.
County will spend millions designing and building a watergate park in the area where Four Mile Run empties into the Potomac.
This all started 20 years ago when Jay Fisette promised the Signature a theater in a building shared with a public library, Shirlington-area residents had to wait 7 years after they approved a bond refenerndun for a library.

What does "unified residential district" mean?
If you look at the County Board's Consent Agenda for the upcoming meeting it appears that the CB puts done-deals, cost-overruns, Taj Mahal infrastructure (e.g., $500,000 tot lots) and other things the County Board doesn't want discussed publically on it's CB-Only Section of the Consent Agenda.
I am so sick of County Board give-aways that cost us tens of millions. All to upscale and wealthy people, non-profits, and corporations. As for the middle calss and small businesses they want us out of the County.
I asked someone in the middle of the ACDC food chain who will get the farmhouse but she said she didn't know.
CB voted unanimously to sell the farmhouse. Now the biggest question is - which Arlington Democrat or Democrats get(s) to buy it?
What a waste of time and tax dollars to continue a charade "public engagement process" for years.
I asked a couple of low-level Democratic hacks who has been promised the farmhouse, but they only confirmed that it will be sold to a Yellow Dog Democratic.

According to at least one County Board member, the proceeds from the farmhouse sale will go to acquire more open space, e.g., by buying and tearing down small homes adjcent to parks.
