Zimmerman, County Board Republicans FastTracking Massive Anti-Democrat Rt 29 Gentrification

Hi Yupette,

Thanks for your blog, and for supporting working class Arlington Democrats who the Republican County Board is trying to gentrify out of Arlington. Latest attempt will be the Howard Manor Apartments on Lee Highway, which Mr. Zimmerman and the County Board want to totally gentrify. Agenda item 11 on the February 15th County Board agenda. They want to drive out working class Democrats and replace workforce housing with a Yuppublican hedo enclave. Zimmerman, Tejada, Hynes, Favola, and Fisette want to raise rents 30%, kick out hard-working Latino and Latina families, and actually put present Howard Manor tenants into homeless shelters. Traffic in the redeveloped Howard Manor would be "controlled" by telling residents to ride bicycles, take Metrobuses and ART buses to work - even if they don't live on bus transit routes - and try to find parking spaces on the street. How "Smart" is that?

Please attend the February 15th County Board meeting and stop the County Republican Board from removing more Arlington Democrats from affordable housing.

Mark - N. Harrison St.

Thanks, Mark. It's long been apparent to me that we are governed by a Hedo Elite who are Democrats in name only.

What do you expect after 4 years of Adrian Fenty in the District facilitated by his cheerleaders at the Post?

I don't read the Post, here's why said...

Speaking of the Post, did you read the Post Magazine yesterday? Advanced Yuppie pick up techniques in bars.

I never wonder why Republicans don't show up at County Board meetings to protest the bad planning, extravagant spending, etc. Because they're among Zimmerman's 'community leaders' aka 'pimps and hoes' who Zimmerman uses to facilitate his megalomania.

County Board can't wait to gentrify out more residents who work in the Lee Hwy-I-66 corridor so the workers can commute to affordable apartments in Manassas, Gainesville, and beyond. These are the jerks who spent more than $1.5 million fighting HOT Lanes in court.

You know this blog is drinking its own bathwater when terms like "County Board Republicans" are taken seriously...

...Arlington Dems need only look in the mirror to see who's at fault here. And, it ISN'T Republicans.

We have one-party government in Arlington, united in their hatred of the poor, minorities, and ethnic groups from non-Northern non-Western European countries.

Yes, no matter what they call themselves they're all the same: Rockefeller-Scranton-Weicker Republicans of 40 years ago.

Pretty sad when a progressive independent attends CB meetings and gives the CB hell for attempting to turn quiet single-family home neighborhoods into Shirlington while the Republicans who live in those neighborhoods attend soccer practice.

Rockefeller Republicans of 40 years ago? Did you see who showed up to speak in favor of the Yuppie affordable housing at Arlington Mill? The Yuptard developer, the plutocrats who Zimmerman appointed to the housing, planning, and transportation commissions, representatives from the neighborhood White Citizens Council and a few carefully selected "model minorities" who are a credit to their race.

This blog is living up to its agenda - all about Yuppie Arlington. Have you noticed that Arlington County's agenda has become - all about Arlington Yuppies?

Regarding Arlington Mill Yuppification, they must have learned something from Mike Brown. 'Cause that's the way he gentrified the 'undesirables' out of Savannah.

The DC developer, Community Preservation and Development Corporation, makes a lot of money gentrifying poor people out of older apartment buildings.

Besides being racist and elitist they are also ageist. They care nothing about seniors who are making do on $30,000 from a pension and Social Security.

Know who owns and operates so-called 'non-profit' Community Preservation and Development Corporation? A group of Yuptards.

Margaret, Chris Zimmerman needs upscale people to take the place of middle income people to be able to pay $138 million for 10 streetcars on Columbia Pike.

The developer look like poverty pimps.

This gentrification redevelopment is not far from Barbara Favola's neighborhood and Mary Hynes's neighborhood. Barbara and Mary spent several million tax dollars relocating DHS headquarters because they didn't want poor people in their upscale neighborhoods. So why wouldn't they want to rid their neighborhoods of more 'undeireables'?

There was a landlord-tenant meeting at Howard Manor last night. The tenants are not happy about being displaced.

Yes, the County Board is a bunch of Country Club Rockefeller Republicans. While they may talk like Democrats they hate poor people and want them out of Arlington County.

Did you know the four of them don't like Tejada and the upscale Latinos Tejada brings to the County Board offices?

As for Tejada, he only cares about using his position on the County Board to make deals and make money from contacts with his wealthy 'amigos'.

They spend hundreds of hours a year in their County Board offices working on tax dollar handout deals to developers, non-profits, and special interests.

Zimmerman, Fisette, and Favola are absolutely responsible for the anti-middle class, anti-minority, and anti-senior citizen gentrification program they put in place shortly after being elected and forming the County Board's majority, together with Paul Ferguson. Hynes (who took Ferguson's place on the County Board three years ago) and Nada Tejada go right along with the majority.

Workforce housing? Last year the County Board voted against allowing retail workers to live above the retail stores where they work.

Zimmerman is a megalomaniac. Even Country Club Republicans won't gentrify single family home neighborhoods surrounding East Falls Church. Zimmerman is so crazy he's capable of anything.

Why don't they just renovate the apartments? I guess because the yupscale 'non profit' that specializes in gentrifying older apartment buildings wouldn't be able to make a ton of money.

So, how did we get to where people who are earning $50,000 a year in an area where the median income is $103,000 a year are gentrified out of market-rate housing?
