Zimmerman Sneaks Targeted Tax Break Via County Board Closed Session

Hello, Yupette,

In the event you missed Chris Zimmerman's latest stunt, he had the County Board consider, and pass, a piece of legislation during closed session on Tuesday that would allow federal non-military employees serving in Afghanistan (and only federal non-military employees serving in Afghanistan) to delay paying their local taxes for 90 days. It was news to County Treasurer Frank O'Leary, who attended Tuesday's County Board meeting to promote his 2011 Vehicle Tax Decal program. Last time the County Board pulled a similar stunt was 15 years ago. So, you can expect anything from the REITsFuhrer of Redevelopment, aka WMATA's Master of Metrorail Disaster, aka Arlington's Guru of Gridlock, from now on.

I've heard that Zimmy wants to follow in Gerry Connally's footsteps.

Same "Dumb Growth" Chris Zimmerman who voted for gridlock at Arlington Mill last Saturday?

Obviously, only place for two guys with egos like Connally's and Zimmerman's to go is to Congress.

Gerry Connally did so much for Fairfax County that he came within a thousand votes of being defeated for a second term.

How sane is Zimmerman? Consider this - he spent days working with a DC developer to gentrify Young Democrats out of of their market rate affordable rental apartments in Howard Manor.

Guru of Gridlock? County Board based it's approval of Arlington Mill redevelopment on bad traffic data.

Back to the daze of the late great Al Eisenberg, remember?

Would be logical for Zimmerman to run for Congress, do battle with Eric Canter and the tea partiers with Connally, and write legislation for his streetcar system and other pet projects. Moran can't be having much fun right now.

Does it bother you that Chris Zimmerman and the County Board treated the Howard Manor tenants with near contempt? It sure bothers me. Many Howard Manor residents are young adults about the same age as Zimmerman's, Hynes's, and Favola's own children, and embrace the County Board's and local Democratic Party's beliefs (e.g., Smart Growth).

It's simply outrageous that Arlington's market rate affordable housing has become a 'redevelopment opportunity' for out-of-state developers, facilitated by non-resident County Staff and the County Board, led by Zimmerman.

Arlington Way? What Arlington Way?

I heard that Jim Moran is definitely considering retiring and that Paulie Ferguson is also considering running for Jim's seat if that happens.

Bothers me a lot more that Arlington Republicans who embrace the free market and oppose government subsidized housing sat behind the Howard Manor residents on Tuesday and did not even clap when the residents defended their market rate housing.

Scott McCaffrey needed the Arlington Chamber of Commerce's permission to cover the Howard Manor gentrification fiasco in his newspaper.
