Zimmerman Likes Arlington Business Like Foxes Like Chickens

I'm a small 'boutique' business person in Ballston. Whatever Mr. Zimmerman says about making Arlington more conducive to small business, fact is that he and the County Board have as much sympathy for the problems of small business as foxes have for chickens. This is the same Chris Zimmerman who imposed a business improvement district on us in Ballston at the last County Board meeting.

Worst is the Chamber of Commerce that goes along with raptors like Zimmerman, Tejada, Hynes, Favola, and Fisette. Even worse are worthless so-called Chamber of Commerce boosters like McCafftonelli whose blurbs in support of Reitminister Zimmerman read like something out of a cheap detective novel.

All they want is more business taxes for their unnecessary and extravagant mega-projects. And giving corporate welfare to the sleazy weasels who run the out-of-state REITs.

Arlington Chamber os Commerce is worthless when it comes to small business. Ever see Chamber Executive Committee member Scott McCafftonelli and his newspaper do anything for small business except take our advertising dollars and print ads that lokk like poor xerox copies of the Sunday comics?

Oh, Sarasota Scotty also goes after the activists who are trying to save us all from being taxed to death by Zimmerman and Fisette.

I would like to see a fun AY posting about which is the "best" local newspaper - the Arlington Sun Fisette or the Falls Church Moran-Press.

T.Y., the Ballston BID is a charade which will be used by Fisette to fund two live theaters on the site of the present Arlington Funeral Home, just as the Rosslyn BID is used to fund Fisette's Artisphere.

But you will never see anything about that in the Arlington Sun-Fisette until it happens.

No, Zimmerman likes Arlington business like a vampire bat likes cows.

Ads in Sun Gazette's printed edition looking like a bad color Xerox copies? Well, what can you expect? SG's secured Fortune 100 creditors, who now own the paper, tried to stiff the unsecured small business creditors - biggest amount owed was to the printer - when the SG's parent was in bankruptcy court in 2009.

Sure Zimmerman likes small business. His favorite is Federal Realty Investment Trust (Shirlington, Pentagon City) whose market cap ($4.9 billion) pales in comparison to Vornado Realty (Crystal City, Rooslyn-Courthouse, Columbia Pike, $15.3 billion) and other big boy REITs like Simon Property Group (Fashion Centre, $29.4 billion), Avalon Bay (Ballston, Arna Valley, $9.7 billion) and Archstone (Crystal City, Columbia Pike, $15.5 billion).

If Zimmerman were really pro-business he would have announced on Saturday that the County Board is ending the car tax decal program.

Where is the Thumbs Down by McCafftonelli for continuing O'Leary's wasteful car tax decal program?

When Arlington Chamber President Rich Doud was contacted about American Community Newspapers's (SG's parent) secured Fortune 100 creditors trying to stiff Arlington's small business unsecured creditors in federal bankruptcy court Rich only said "that's regrettable".

Was there any fee or tax the County Board failed to raise during 2010?

Yes, when your retail business is taxed to the point when you can no longer operate Zimmerman will allow you to post a large "Going Out of Business" sign in your front window.

Scotty McCafftonelli and the other Arlington Chamber board members won't talk to any small business that doesn't gross at least $10 million a year.

Prediction - Zimmerman will create both a BID and a TIF in East Falls Church to fund his and the other County Board members' special projects and provide corporate welfare to a REIT or REITs out of the general fund.

Zimmerman should change political parties - from Elitist Democrat to Country Club Republican. Then he can socialize with his good Republican buds who run the REITs at their exclusive clubs.

As a matter of fact, McCafftonelli admitted he's a bigger nut case than Zimmy.
