July 10th County Board Meeting to be "Christmas in July" for CB's Pet People, Projects

Hi, Yupette,

Can we have a thread about the upcoming "Christmas in July" County Board meeting and all the tax $$$$$ the County Board that was so fiscally challenged six months ago is going to hand out to its favorite people in return for votes?

How about almost $90,000 for two wealthy live theater groups - Signature and Synetic? Gee that's about 38% of the total. Same Signature that held fund raisers for County Board Chairman Fisette last year?

Christmas in July - Item 44 on the County Board's agenda is approval of $781,000 from pay as you go accounts for theatrical lighting and audiovisual equipment for the Artisphere. In the event you wondered why street paving was put on the bond referendum it's because the luxuries get funded out of paygo and the basics don't get funded, or if they do it's when hundreds of miles of streets are literally crumbling.

Christmas in July - Item 53 on the County Board's agenda is approval of a bicycle sharing franchise owned by the son of the Arlington Democratic Party's long time Ward Heeler in Chief involving extensive use of public property with (apparently) no compensation whatsoever from the franchisee to the County.

I am 66 years old and there is no way I will ever ride a bicycle anywhere again. Especially considering the increasing traffic volume concomitant with the development the County Board of Urban Village Idiots approves.

FYI, one of the region's biggest bicycle fanatics was killed last week when he was hit by a car in Maryland.

I get it, this is all about rewarding Charlie Denney & family for Lucy Denney's invaluable assistance getting County Board incumbents elected and re-elected.

Christmas in July - Item 45, 2010 Bond Referenda. Having siphoned off pay as you go funds for luxury items like live entertainment, the County Board is intermingling short-term paygo projects with long-term capital projects in the 2010 Bond Referenda. Thus taxpayers will pay significantly more for short-term projects than if the projects had been funded through paygo.

No more Rails to Trails. Rails to Trails is what made I-66 the G-D mess it is and always will be.

The County Board's biggest ward heeler, Mike Nardozimmy, wants to expand Rails to Trails. These guys are to bicycles what Rolling Thunder is to Harleys

Our "future" - ride a bicycle or ride a Harley?

Latest from Mike Nardozimmy (Zimmerman's Chief Ward Heeler for EFC redevelopment) is a series of bike trails to connect parks. Wonder how many Arlington Dem Committee insiders are shareholders in Arlington Bicycle Enterprises, Inc.?

In case you wondered how far the $14 million in the bond referendum will go for paving streets it may only pave 40 miles because the streets are wide and in such bad shape they have to be milled. There are about 950 miles of streets and roads in Arlington.

The repaving cost for Wilson and Clerendon Blvds from Rosslyn to Glebe Road could be as much as $10 million.

Christmas in July, Item 34 - Gift to WMATA of $36.6 million for Rosslyn Station Access Improvements.

Chris Zimmerman doesn't get it - it's the obsolete 2-track system UNDER the station that needs improving before anything else. Starting with another tunnel under the Potomac.

Hey Yuppette, did you see Condo Chris and Gelato Jay are cutting the kids' spray parks this summer? Why of course the arts must come first. After all, the kids around Drew, Arlington Mills and in the shadows of Ballston can join those swim clubs in the north of the county. I am so proud to live in a kids first community, my buttons are bursting!

Christmas in July, Agenda item 47, transfer of cable TV franchise from Starpower to ABRY Partners, which appears to be a Boston hedge fund that speculates in communications.

How many single family homes will be torn down to create the "open space" that the funds from the bond referenda will enable?

Christmas in July - Item 31, $66,216 to Ballston Commons to pay the rent for a non-profit that runs programs for the disabled in Ballston Commons retail space. Is this one of Barbara Favola's pet special interests?

Biggest Christmas-in-July give-away of all is Agenda Item 51, the EFC redevelopment give-away to developers. How about a separate thread, Yupette?

I would like the Arlington Circuit Court to take a look at the legality of Arlington's Neighborhood Conservation Program before the luxury upgrades for wealthy neighborhoods bond referendum gets on the ballot.
