What else could you expect from Favola, Fisette, and Hynes?
Gee I wonder why Stew Schwartz from the Coalition for Smarter Growth didn't stick around after endorsing the Yuppification of East Falls Church to talk about the need for on-site affordable housing?
It's the County Board's "gentrify out the middle class and minorities" policy in action. Remember Potomac Yards? Only difference is that Mary Hynes is on the County Board in place of Paul Ferguson.
The Planning Division received several letters from people who work in retail sales in the Ballson-Rosslyn corridor and expressed interest in living in or near the building where there store is located.
Yes I also believe the County Board is racist and elitist. Affordable housing on-site for this development was endorsed by everyone BUT the developer and County Board.
Fellow senior citizens: We are next. The Yuppie Board needs our modest single family homes to be redeveloped into Yuppie apartments and condos. If you thought you would enjoy a long and happy retirement in your home you are in for a rude awakening. Ask the Seniors who live in the East Falls Church neighborhoods.
What are the reasons why the County Board and developer don't want an assistant manager of a retail establishment like Pottery Barn, Orvis, Barnes and Noble, etc., living on-site in an apartment above the store?
Assuming the person is 25 years old and earning $40,000 / year she or he doesn't have the income to sufficiently contribute to the county's spendthrift public and private "creative culture".
Why would the Yuppie Board want a 70 year old adult whose household income is $45,000 around when it could redevelop that person's home into 14 condo units selling for $650,000 each?
Three questions: how is county staff involved, how does the county attract developers who will not agree to rational site plan conditions, and why didn't the chamber of commerce speak out?
County Staff just goes along with whatever the developers want. Most of them live outside Arlington and those who have any decision-making responsibilty are only a few years from retirement.

They aren't only anti-minority, they're anti-middle class.
If on-site affordable housing couldn't happen at 1900 Wilson Blvd., where can it happen?

Seen the list of their recent appointments and re-appointments to their advisory commissions and committees?

Where were the Greens and the church groups who are always sermonizing about the need for affordable housing?

How about Seniors whose income is $40,000 / year?
Besides, Barbara Favola likes to be around wealthy people.

Anyone know why Mike Brown and his assistant county manager resigned from Savannah government?

You know this is really REALLY pathetic. It's telling me that Fisette doesn't want the manager of a bicycle store to live above the store.
Wait till you see the Arlington Mill charade.
