Multi-Modal Safety PSAs - Conspicuous by Their Absence

Hi,

I sometimes visit this blog and agree that there's a big problem in Arlington with multi-modal safety.

I took an early vacation in upstate NY after Memorial Day and there are lots of safe pedestrian-bicycle-auto PSAs produced by NY State Government, on network TV and on YouTube. Here's one of them.

Why not in Virginia, especially inside the DC Beltway?

Thanks again for your blog.

Pedestrians, bicyclists, scooter riders, and skateboarders are exempt from traffic safety ordinances / enforcement in Arlington.

Local Media, especially ArlNow, would rather chase ambulances than publish safety PSAs. Then there are the County's PR Team and the subsidized non-profit Media outlets like AIM.

Older African-American telling a Millennial to be careful crossing a busy street in Arlington? And the Millennial listening? LOL ;~}

How about a public safety video about bicyclist bad behavior on multi-use trails?

Multi-modal gridlock -- will occur sooner than you think.

Forget walking, hiking, running on trails.

What can you expect? Young cops want to be cowboys and cowgirls chasing 'bad guys' like shoplifters. Older cops just want an office to hide out in until they retire. Multi-modal safety? Yawn...zzzzzzz

Ten electric scooter accidents with injuries reported to ACPD between October and April. Who knows how many more occurred.

The Mayor of Nashville wants to ban electric scooters from Nashville.

How many ACDC cops are out there enforcing anything?

ACPD is a security force for events, festivals, malls, convenience stores, neighborhoods with lots of bars and restaurants.

Anyone approaching retirement and living on a fixed income, or at the point where they're deciding whether they want to buy a first home in Arlington, should not waste time expecting County Government to come to it's senses, 'cause when that occurs won't be any time soon.

Thanks to my father who informed me about this interesting and informative blog.

FYI - John Vihstadt e-mailed a newsletter today expressing exasperation with the County's one-party controlled County Board.

You have to be nuts to retire in Arlington County, or purchase a single family home here if you are young and want to raise a family here. You will be eaten alive by taxes either way.

I'm 49. I'm already looking to retire to a place with no so-called Smart Growth.

Right. ACPD is too busy being a "security force" for various types of service businesses to bother with community policing.

My criteria for retirement in 10 years = No New Urbaism anywhere within 100 miles + excellent nearby healthcare.

ACPD is worthless. Everyone under about 30 is a cowboy / cowgirl cop. Everyone over about 30 is an on-the-job-retiree.

Public Safety employees work in Arlington for one reason - overtime for activities like standing around at special events and festivals.

School starts in a month. Where's the County's traffic safety program...and I don't mean just going after drivers of 4-wheel motor vehicles.
