'Progressive' County Board is Increasingly Environmentally Irresponsible

Hi,

Thanks for this blog.

I gotta laugh at the so-called "Progressive" Arlington County Board aka Arlington County Board of Supervisors. They were mediocre before and are much worse since the Board became all-Democrat in January.

Latest environmentally irresponsible antic is rescinding glass bottle recycling. They apparently didn't bother checking out options for reuse, like in building materials and for street paving. Then there's their "More Car Diet". Then there's the continuing loss of the County's mature tree canopy. Then there's the creation of more impervious surfaces everywhere, ranging from paving neighborhood parks to widening trails to benefit their pet bicycle cult. Several of their favorite / pet Socialist Democrat VIPs want to take the golf courses from the country clubs and pave them over.

All a consequence of their so-called progressive planning ideology, 'New Urbanism', which has driven the County's development and redevelopment for more than 35 years.

I no longer believe anything anyone in County Government says. I am skipping the Democratic Primary this year and voting for Independent Audrey Clement and no one else in November.

Right: An ongoing coalition of former Limo-Liberals / Moderate Republicans who have morphed into Volvo / Range Rover Progressives and Country Club / Chamber of Commerce Republicans...not a dime's worth of difference among them.

We're back to 2013 with County Government and the School Board.

Also seen on another blog: Christian Dorsey and Katie Cristol should move back to New Jersey where she can live in Princeton and he in Cape May County and make Trenton and Atlantic City vibrant again with smart growth. Bonus political points for working to remove the names of long-dead White Males from historic sites around NJ.

There are two types of VIPs out to pave over the County, neighborhood-by-neighborhood. Those who don't, and won't, live in the County and those whose residential neighborhoods in the County are off-limits for anything but being classically suburban.

Their pet Developers have been allowed to infill urbanize the Ballston-Rosslyn Corridor to such an extent with almost no new open space provided that the the current CB and their predecessors re-purposed the streets, sidewalks, trails, etc., into recreation space for scooters, bicycles, etc.

Then there are the former neighborhood parks on the County's borders that are expensively paved over and repurposed into regional park-recreation-sports-activity centers, e.g., Barcroft Sports and Recreation Center.

Only County Staff hired in the past couple decades are those who only want to in-fill urbanize the entire County with the exception of a few upscale neighborhoods which will be in-filled with McMansions.

How much green open space will be repurposed for the mountain bikers to destroy? Ask the Bikester Cult's Fairy Godmother Libby Garvey.

How about an A.Y. Post to Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the start of the Ashton Heights Progressives' mixed-use gentrification of the County?

Then there's increased air pollution from the More Car Diet.

Their Accessory Dwelling Unit massive in-fill plan for residential neighborhoods is up for a vote this Saturday.

County Board's vote to destroy trees for Rosslyn Boathouse infrastructure on May 21st was illegal.
