So where is the School Board coming from in its quest to rename Washington and Lee High school?
The School Board majority, Reid Goldstein, Barbara Kanninen, and Nancy Van Doren grew up in states that were both anti-slavery before the War Between the States and whose state regiments were major participants in Civil War battles. From a Web search it appears that Reid Goldstein grew up in Upstate New York, Barbara Kanninen grew up in Minnesota, and Nancy Van Dorn grew up in Connecticut.
The School Board minority, Monique O'Grady and Tanya Talento, apparently grew up in the D.C. metro area.
Except for Monique O'Grady it appears that none of the School Board members lived in the former Confederate states for any significant time before they moved to Arlington.
In recent decades both Robert E. Lee and George Washington have been demonized as slaveholders in so-called Progressive states like Connecticut, Minnesota, and York and in the D.C. area public schools.
At least two current School Board members attended public schools whose names and / or names of their sports teams became an embarrassment and were changed.
Thanks to the local media becoming little more than facilitators for the status quo the only way we can determine where candidates for public office are coming from is by doing Web searches ourselves, and through FOIA requests.

Prejudice towards white working class residents in particular and the South in general started when Progressive Elitists Libby Garvey (grew up in Wisconsin) and Mary Hynes (grew up in Minnesota) were on the School Board.
There will be two classes of Arlington Residents in 10 years - the Progressive Elite and their highly-subsidized servants.
And ZERO workforce housing will remain in the County.

There were no Civil War battles fought in New York, Minnesota, or Connecticut. Battles were fought in those states much earlier to exterminate Native American tribes.

The Rust Belt wouldn't be the Rust Belt if the so-called Progressives who grew up there had stayed there instead of moving here. This was once a socially, economically, politically diverse County. No longer thanks to them.
Agree. I am 61 and the County WAS vibrant 45 years ago when I attended W-L. The beginning of the end occurred when the Rust Belt carpetbaggers took over County Government and proceeded to enrich themselves while inflicting their Rockefeller Republican Urban Renewal (renamed New Urbanism) and Kennedy Democrat Limo Liberalism (renamed Progressive Elitism) on the County.
Also agree. Three generations of Rust Belt Refugee Limo Liberals (and wannabes) Ellen Bozman > Jay Fisette > Katie Cristol have inflicted Urban Renewal / New Urbanism on what was once a great County before they arrived.
Then there are County Staff / APS Staff, the Advisory Commissions, PTA / Civic Federation and other Progressive Elites.
