Hey, Yupette,
I live in soon-to-be-gridlocked Ballston, and walked over to the Merlex previously-owned vehicle lot on Glebe Road across from AED over the weekend. Even more packed with upscale vehicles than the last time I visited. This time there were Ferraris parked next to the Bentleys and Maseratis.
'Car Free Diet' is an even bigger County Government charade than 'Affordable Housing'. Every other County Board meeting another upzoning of the General Land Use Plan to pack more people and their vehicles into this neighborhood. Then bicycle fanatics like Fibbin' Libby Garvey drive around in their SUVs telling us we have to ride bicycles 24/7/365
Next big thing to generate more vehicle trips will be the grand opening of the new Alfa Romeo-Fiat-Maserati dealership at the other end of Glebe Road. Followed by the expansion of Car2Go. Followed by I-66 and I-95 Express Lanes extended a dozen miles farther out. When will it end? When the Urban Village becomes an Urban Nightmare with multi-modal gridlock. Meaning hundreds of vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians trying to use the same major intersections at the same time. When will that occur? Sooner than we think.
Thanks for this blog.

It gets worse. Notice that Audrey Clement, who was put on the Transportation Commission to bring "diversity" to the advisory commissions, attends County Board meetings speaking on her own behalf to berate DES about phony traffic projections for AM and PM rush hour traffic to and from new mixed-use redevelopment.
Last night VDOT held a public meeting at the South Fairlington Community Center, regarding improvements to the Shirlington Circle area of I-395. For once the civic association neighborhood nannies did not attend. So it was a productive meeting, and everyone said what they wanted to say. Chair of the Transportation Commission attended as did County Transportation Staff.
However, VDOT was only informed about the plans for large scale redevelopment of Shirlington-Nauck and the Four Mile Run Valley by Arlington residents, and not by Arlington Transportation Staff.
WHY is transit / transportation planning by Arlington County done on an ad hoc basis with no comprehensive multi-modal planning, multi-modal data, data sharing with VDOT?
Who on the County Board will attend the ribbon-cutting for the Fiat-Alfa Romeo-Maserati dealership? Bet a donut it's JV.
Time to take defensive measures against the gridlock we're going to experience within 5 years - start telecommuting a couple days a week and try home grocery delivery for a month.
'Car Free Diet' is a huge joke at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.
County Government VIPs drive around in their SUVs and tell everyone else they have to ride bicycles. Typical of people who've been in government way too long.
Ballston and Rosslyn will be the first two neighborhoods gridlocked. About 2023.
Surprise, Surprise, basic infrastructure maintenance and upgrades will take a hit so County Board Democrats can keep their extravagant promises to pet constituencies. Watch out for potholes while driving your expensive vehicle.
Last County Board meeting there was a discussion of eliminating circulator buses in favor of rideshare serving residential neighborhoods.
I'm telecommuting every Friday. Company I work for holds regional meetings at Noon and everyone is out and on the road by 2 PM. Don't want to think about how it will be in 5 years. I live in Westover and living here will be impossible with Reed School expansion. Thinking of moving and changing employment and working for a company that's into major league telecommuting, so I only have to drive to meetings.
Eliminate circulator buses? I thought the purpose of circulator buses was to eliminate traffic congestion.
Urban Village Idiots affiliated with Arlington's Democratic Party want cross-Potomac gondolas which will poach more riders from Metrorail and Metrobus.
Notice that no one working in Transportation for the feds, state, or county wants to discuss expanding telecommuting?
Where is local/express commuter train service parallel to I-95? Where is commuter train service to Culpeper parallel to I-66?
State is supposedly working on a third track for VRE to Fredericksburg. Nothing heard about commuter rail out to Culpeper.
Speaking of "Car Free Diet" Rolling Thunder is back.
Growth-for-the-Sake-of-Growth is going to completely destroy my Westover neighborhood. Why does any parent who lives 1 block from a school have the right to drive their kids to school and pick them up?
Anyone else see the data about the steep decrease in Metrobus ridership?
Parents who live in my neighborhood believe it's their right to drive their kids to school. No one at APS says no to that.
More Car Diet's also over on South Glebe Rd. How about a feature about tehe new Fiat-Maserati-Alfa Romeo dealership under construction?
