County's Anti-Small Business Agenda Continues
Hi, Yupette,
Anyone else read yesterday's ArlNow feature about the BrickHaus beer garden's travails with DES inspection services, and the negative comments about DES, Arlingrton Economic Development, and County Government in general? Had to be a first for ArlNow which is usually a shameless County Government booster. Maybe Scott Brodbeck was dizzy from too much eclipse watching.
It's long been obvious to me that County Government hates essential small businesses, especially those that try to grow by renovating existing buildings in low-density neighborhoods. County Government also hates workforce employees who are essential to small businesses and wants them out of Arlington.
I have a cat and took her to NOVA Cat Clinic this month for her 6-month check-up. NOVA Cat Clinic's plans were stalled for years over DES approval of its renovation of the building on Cathedral Lane the clinic's owner purchased from the Catholic Archdiocese. DES finally issued a certificate of occupancy and the clinic is moving from the re-purposed home the clinic occupies on Kenmore Street.
I agree that this is the local government we get when we allow 1-party government to rule us for decades.
Thanks for your blog.

I never saw any recognition from County Government that the Westover Italian Store provides multiple community benefits and amenities as well as providing County Government with lots of tax revenue.
Arlington Government is a bunch of Elitists who only recognize fellow Limo Liberals and Country Club Republicans, that's why.
Arlington Planning, Economic Development, and DES are run by non-residents who won't move to Arlington no matter how much they are paid, why should they care?
Oh, then there's the Car Free Diet. We're supposed to put Mittens in her cat carrier and bicycle with her to NOVA Cat Clinic, in January, according to the County's PR Machine.
Sorry, Arlington small business owners, County Board has reserved corporate welfare benefits for the likes of Nestle' and Bloomberg.
Simple solution - Time to tell Victor Hoskins and Carol Mitten - Your're Fired.
Business sector that's prospered without any help from the County is new and used auto sales.
NSF is in the process of moving to Alexandria. Any for-profit or non-profit leasing NSF's former headquarters building? BTW, you can see dozens of commercial space for lease signs on Ballston office buildings.
I am waiting for a sponsored informercial in ArlNow for the BroHoe Confidential Bicycle Delivery Service. Started by two urban hipsters who moved to Arlington from Baltimore after serving time for low-level drug dealing. BroHoe will provide entry-level sales and delivery positions for Arlington's at-risk youth. Also people who had their driver's licenses suspended or revoked for offenses involving drugs and alcohol.
Ya gotta love those Millennial Bikesters for their entrepreneurial spirit.
Recognition from County Government and the County's VIP organizations? Forget it unless you'e a fat cat Yellow Dog PlutoCrat.
Honorable John Milliken just received another award.
Ask BroHoe to please put The Continental on its preferred delivery list.
I am waiting for infomercials featuring the People's Republic of Venezuala to appear as Sponsored Content on ArlNow.
What's the difference between a totally f-up long-time one-party regime like Hong Kong and Arlington County? About 9,000 miles.
Why do I have to be a Yellow Dog Democrat who contributes to Democratic campaigns to receive help from the County for business expansion? My customers and I already pay lots of taxes to the County.
Check out "Peter's Take" on ArlNow today...especially the comments.
Speaking of Arlington's small businesses, I have gotta laugh at all the tributes by the Yellow Dog movers and shakers aka White Citizens Council for Doc Muse and Green Valley Pharmacy. Twenty years ago they wanted to close the pharmacy and lock up Doc and John Robinson for not endorsing the "resegregation through gentrification" of Nauck.
Economic Development has had years to find a replacement tenant for NSF's headquarters that's being vacated this week. So, who's moving in next week?
Family-owned florist in Buckingham relocated to Annandale. To be replaced by yet another kabob restaurant in Buckingham. How many retail florists remain in Arlington?
