Fighting Intensifies Over Open Space Repurposing
Hey, Yupette,
Stay tuned to Saturday's County Board meeting for another neighborhood demonstration about saving existing open space from development and/or repurposing..
Meanwhile, it's been 6 months since Abingson School planning began and APS is still engaged in fighting with Abingdon neighbors about paving the open space at Abingdon for more parking and vehicle turn-around space...to the point where the County Board is again getting involved. As the County Board had to get involved with Williamsburg, Ashlawn, and McKinley school construction.
At the School Board meeting this week almost nothing was said about education at Abingdon, discussion was all about traffic and parking.
How did we get to the point where we are spending a fortune on school buses that are almost empty, and another fortune building parking lots and turn-around space for SUV soccer parents who refuse under any circumstances to allow their child or children to ride a school bus?
More reason for a complete moratorium on New Urbansim before we are overwhelmed by in-fill.

Dysfunctional Arlington Police Department allows parents to cruise through residential neighborhood at 50 mph after dropping their kids off at school in the AM
Why blame the Arlington Police Department for the dysfunction of the parents of school-age children?
I can only imagine the high-speed chases through the "urban village" that is Arlington if the police tried to stop these highly dysfunctional adults; and the resulting uproar against this aggressive policing that would follow in Liberal Yuppie Arlington.
In short - Arlington, where Liberals complain about the police for their own personal failures.
Stop then at the Stop signs for running the Stop signs.
High speed chase through the Urban Village of a Yuptard Mommy who doesn't even bother buckling Little Muffy into a child seat?
Stop her, arrest her, handcuff her, lock her up! In front of the other Yuptard Mommies!
Never mind the high speed chase. Big Muffy draws her 9 mm Glock and starts spraying bullets in the direction of anyone who gets in the way of dropping off Little Muffy at Abingdon at 8 AM and then zooming off at 50 MPH to her 9 AM meeting.
Correct. Arlington Police are dysfunctional A-Holes who are too busy providing security services to A-Town and every other bar and restaurant across the County to give a s--- about anything else.
Second that !!
ACPD also provides comprehensive complimentary security services to Ballston Common Mall and Pentagon City Mall at taxpayers' expense.
Arlington Police are a bunch of dysfunctional on-the-job-retirees.
Who make the 'repurposing' decisions? County Staff who don't live in the County. It gets worse. Non-resident County Staff are repurposing parks etc., into multi-use multi-jurisdiction public infrastructure to benefit themselves, i.e., these parks are right on Arlington's borders and used by more non-residents than residents. Latest to be 'repurposed' are the parks on the border with FC.
Says the passed out drunk U.S. Secret Service executive and his dysfunctional incompetent federal senior executive service spouse
Check out the plans for Tuckahoe Regional Park on the County's Web site.
Sen them a message they won't ignore. Elect Audrey Clement to the County Board.
Why do you think local LE has referred to them as "The Secret Squirrels" for decades?
Tuckahoe - the soon-to-be gold plated multi-use activity center where County Planning and Parks and Rec Staff who live in Falls Church will send their kids
Stand by for another Shirlington at the corner of King and Beauregard Street in Alexandria. Guess where the nearest park, recreation, sports, event, and activity infrastructure are located?
Duh. Wakefield High School?
Walter Reed bike trail leading to the Four Mile Run and W O & D bike trails are just across King Street.
Our lives are almost totally controlled by County Staff who don't live in Arlington. Decisions rubber-stamped by the County Board.
Where are the Arlington Police riding bicycles in our neighborhoods?
People, you are forgetting about the multiple-DWI offenders who had their drivers licenses revoked and are riding bicycles on sidewalks while 3 times over the limit for DWI.
It gets worse...Ashlawn Elementary School neighbors are bitterly complaining to the County Board about environmental damage to the neighborhood as the result of installing large amounts of impervious surface at Ashlawn.
How about Wilson School, on the County Board's agenda tomorrow?
Next ACPD Chief will most likely live in Ashburn.
ACPD is a cowboy police department.
Why doesn't ACPD conduct a courtesy child safety seat inspection outside a randomly-selected elementary school? Can't do that. Too many upscale yuppie parents would complain.
Ferguson Missouri? Visit Paulie Ferguson's Circuit Court. Full of working class African Americans and Latinos.
Also homeless who are off their meds.
Now that Barbara Donnellan is retiring maybe a new police chief will be hired who will put more than a dozen cops per shift on the County's streets.
Can't do it...who would provide security for Pentagon City and Ballston Commons?
Who would provide security for A-Town?
Correction: Arlington Police are cowboys who beat up homeless people who are off their meds.
Next to announce he's retiring is the County Attorney.
Yes...fix up what's already here before approving any more tear-down infill mega projects.
On Saturday the County Board gave the Carr REIT bonus density for "Open Space" that will consist of dedicated restaurant seating and a service alley in Courthouse.
What next for Corporate Welfare in Arlington? Transfer of Development Rights from open space in Alaska?
Oh, there's only about 9 million square feet of office space in Arlington out for lease.
Abingdon School planning committees are still arguing about parking vs. open space after almost 7 months.
Hate speech is being directed by APS against neighborhood residents who won't go along with bigger parking lots and more traffic at renovated elementary schools.
