Hey Yupette,
Check out the video of County Board's discussion of the proposed sign ordinance (agenda Item 50) on the County's Web site, and the push by the Economic Development Commission and Chamber of Commerce boosters for Las Vegas lighting in Rosslyn, the Pike, and on the other arterials.
If they like Vegas lighting, they'll love Vegas buses, like the ACE articulated bus in the photo. Maybe not, the lighting in the photo looks well-planned and is not facing national monuments.

If you click to expand the photo you will see there is no rooftop signage on the tall building in the background.
Look Zimmy, look, look.
Three big doors.
Passengers boarding from curb.
No elevated platform required.
No tracks required.
No power poles required.
Does not require mountaintop coal for power.
No tracks to injure bicyclists.
Arlington's Economic Development Commission is a disgrace. Hands off my suburban neighborhood.
What happened is this - there has been a big improvement in the looks and performance of all types of buses over he past 5 years, especially double deck and articulated buses. The County Board bought into streetcars in 2006 and does not want to evaluate modern articulated buses....Las Vegas ACE bus for example.
That is why the County Board has to go. They don't want to talk about anything 21st Century.
Same with rooftop solar on supermarkets, can't do it, doesn't conform to our 20th Century design perspective. Time for them to retire - move on.
They want Arlington to be another Portland, but they are totally urbanizing the County so it looks less and less like Portland. We would be much better off laying off 2/3 of the economic development and planning staff and advertising for developers who are socially and environmentally responsible to develop by right.
I have to wonder what luxury gated enclave nowhere near an urban area EDC Chair Marty Almquist will move to when she retires.
They want backyard chickens? Where? In the postage stamp back yards that remain after older suburban homes are torn down and replaced by McMansions ?
Yes. Fire the urban village idiots who are responsible for the County's current smart growth "planning" disaster and bring in some first rate developers who will plan a sustainable county "by right".
We cannot do worse with 'by right' development than we are doing now with site plans.
Fire Donellan, Brosnan, and Holzheimer, ASAP. What a bunch of f-ing turkeys.
Google "Sign Standards - City of Las Vegas"
It's a big contest...to see which jurisdiction inside the Beltway can urbanize the fastest.
Wonder why the McDonalds at the corner of Wilson and George Mason is being renovated without any input from the County? I don't.
County would have demanded McDonalds contribute for affordable housing for people at 60% of area media income, or $62,000 a year.
Fire 2/3 of Economic Development and CPHD...2100 trolls...most of what they do is post comments onto blogs like Arl Now.
Streetcars are 70's vintage, with upgrades, buses are all new technology.
If WMATA can't keep trains on dedicated tracks from derailing how is whatever mickey mouse bureaucracy that runs the streetcars going to keep them on the tracks?
Let it go. Geesh.
Another Arl Now Troll heard from ;~{
