Every wonder why the pace of on-site renewable energy installation in Arlington is so glacial? One big reason - Jay Fisette's friendships with the fossil fuel polluters. Yep, like other VIP Democrats Jay is best buds with the anti-renewable energy National Rural Electrification Cooperative Association, which is currently at war with the EPA. In fact, Jay's domestic partner's corporate consulting firm, Healthy Companies International, recently gave NRECA a big corporate makeover. Of course, NCREA also supplies the Arlington Democratic Committee with 'free' meeting and event space.
Jay's also good buds with anti-renewable energy Dominion and Washington Gas. Jay's so-called 'Citizen Energy Task Force' was another big charade. How big? Check out what's going on elsewhere in the Northeast. There is a massive move on to install on-site solar in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. Here's a photo of a Giant supermarket in eastern Pennsylvania where a 250 kilowatt solar array was installed a couple months ago. ALL the Giant supermarkets in Pennsylvania and Delaware are having big solar arrays installed.
Meanwhile back in Arlington, the County Board is still approving LEED Gold buildings that are energy pigs. Why are we still electing and re-electing turkeys like Jay Fisette?

The media go right along with Fi$ette's program. Local news is all about restaurants, celebrities and scaring the soccer moms.
Same Healthy Companies International that has a huge consulting contract with Boeing which was not disclosed by Jay when the County Board approved Boeing's corporate welfare package?

I suspect several of the County's PR flacks spend their work days posting to the Arl Now blog defending Give-Away Jay's gimmes to special interests.
Why do we still elect and re-elect people like Gourmet Jay? Because of the people who run the local media like Doudy Doody McCaffrey.

Why am I not surprised? Someone posted on this blog the other day that two major league Democratic candidates have called the local Democratic Party 'corrupt' within the past year.
Local Media are out at the airport with the VIPs who they endorse or shill for checking out the Boeing 787.
Future of the airlines is electric planes, not jets. But you won't see that in the local media.
This County is becoming truly pathetic. Let's not offend the fossil fuel polluters. Our air quality is already among the worst in the nation.
This is even worse than it first appears because the areas in the Northeast where solar is being installed receive significantly less sunshine than Arlington.
For the $1 million being spent on a baseball field at W-L, W-L could have solar thermal panels installed that would provide all the hot water the school could use, including heating the swimming pool.
Energy Pig? Try Washington and Lee High School with its 20 and 30 foot ceilings.
We're still electing Jay because he uses our tax dollars to fund his pet special interest groups who get preferential treatment from county government at our expense.
Never mind the photovoltaic panels, we can't even have solar thermal panels installed on public buildings which would save taxpayers big $$$ within 4 years of installation. But that would offend Dominion and Washington Gas.

Fairlington residents have asked Libby Garvey why Abingdon School can't have solar panels to heat water to heat the school, like Minnie Howard School 1/2 mile away in Alexandria. Result? Anyone who talks about renewable energy is labeled a 'troublemaker' and told they aren't welcome to attend meetings and events in Fairlington.
Dominion is throwing a big bash for elected officials and candidates at the Westin in Alexandria on June 7th.
Fairlington has 12 outdoor pools and no solar pool heating and Libby has lived there 35 years.
Ever see anything in the Post about solar? I don't.
