Arlington's $568 Million Wastewater Treatment Plant - A Disaster Waiting to Happen.
Hi Yupette,
Despite what you may have heard from the County's PR Team at the last County Board Meeting about the County's "marvelous" new wastewater treatment plant, the plant's operators are barely able to keep up with alarms and major-league malfunctions at the plant. These range from bad odors, to sewage overflows, to near-explosions of toxic gasses (like chlorine) used to treat raw sewage. My neighbor works at the wastewater treatment plant and he's pretty scared that the Plant and half of South Arlington are going to blow sky-high.
Thanks for your blog, the only honest blog in Northern VA, in my opinion.
Peter

Plant's operators are constantly contacting each other about heading off emergencies, especially on weekends.

Thank you Diana Sun and the County Manager's PR Team for again promoting another County Board fantasy.

"Warning...Wastewater Treatment Operator Inhaling a Controlled Substance...Wastewater Treatment Operator Inhaling a Controlled Substance".
What the hell wrong with a Arlington County Wastewater Treatment Operator inhaling weed while mixing choline, oxygen and hydrogen?
I live in Crystal City, please get the pressure over 235.
Same wonderful wastewater treatment plant that won, what, five prestigious awards? And County Board wants to spend money applying for more prestigious awards?
So what do they care? The plant's operators all live in Prince William County. We're just a paycheck.
County spent $568 million for what? Pumps that spend more time being repaired than pumping?
So, there was a big sewage backup at the Harris Teeter in Potomac Yards? Gosh, how did that happen??

"Centrifuge 1 Group Fail Alarm".
Clever diversionary tactic, rerouting sewage overflow from Four Mile Run to Harris Teeter. Good way to escape EPA monitoring.
Why are the sewage lift pumps in Potomac Yards always breaking down?
Is Arlington County going to reimburse Harris Teeter for the costs that its gross negligence and willing indifference imposed, or will AC hide behind the cloak of sovereign immunity?
