Cash Surpasses Gift Cards as Favorite Holiday Gift to Arlington Decision Makers

Hello, Yupette,

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Holidays.

Consensus opinion around 2100 Clarendon Blvd. is that good old American cash (gently used $20 bills are the favorite denomination) has surpassed gift cards as the favorite Holiday gift to Arlington County's Corporate Crony 'Decision Makers' whether they be County Board members, County staff, Advisory Committee members, or members of the local Media.

Turns out that gift cards are too hard to use when they're traveling to visit Sister Cities, for their kids away from home in college, when they're shopping at an outlet mall in Delaware, or when they're dining at a favorite local restaurant in beautiful Clarendon.

Thanks for your blog. Happy New Year.

I liked to be 'comped' for getaways to Atlantic City during 3-day Federal holiday weekends.

Hell, if a club owner can't give a little Christmas Cash to hard working code enforcement employees who keep the County's party zones running smoothly we are a poor excuse for a County run by machine Democrats.

Si Amigo. The gift cards are all right for the county employees' children but where are you going to use them in El Salvador?

Anyone on the County Board still have a kid in college?

LOL. There are about two people in Arlington who file financial disclosure forms with the County every January who don't lie like dogs on their financial disclosure form.

I give restaurant gift cards to the media. They dine in upscale national chain restaurants.

Hey, it's tough enough being a County employee. Get up at 5 AM. Get the kids up. Get on I-95 by 6:30 AM. Drop the kids off at two different Arlington schools. Drive around in a pick up truck for hours making sure the contractors are doing what they are supposed to do, almost always they are. Pick the kids up at school and drive home to PW County. If a contractor wants to give me a few bucks as a Christmas gift, so what? You think anyone is looking over the County Board's shoulders to see who's picking up the tab when they travel on junkets to the sisters cities?

Yes, let's not forget the #1 fringe benefit for non-resident County employees...

The way employees at 2100 Clarendon Blvd. dress they must all be receiving Macy's gift cards.

Ask how drugs became so pervasive in the Clarendon club scene, as long as were talking about people who are paid to look the other way.

Drugs in Clarendon clubs? You must mean in Clarendon North Dakota.

Mary Hynes told her neighbors last Fall she and the police and code enforcement are 'working on fixing' the problems in the Clarendon Party Zone where she lives.

Mary knows all about partying...she's a pre-Yuppie 70's partier.

Let's not forget Christmas Giving to Arlington's most important VIPs --- Soccer Coaches.

Yes, there is corruption from top to bottom in Arlington Government. That's not the reason I retired from DES as soon as I could. There is also massive on-the-job-retirement in Arlington Government. Also massive goofing off. County employees working at their part-time home businesses. I was tire of doing my job and the guy's job who was installing kitchen cabinets with his son 3 hours every day.

Goofing Off? You can't be referring to the Arlington County Police Department.

What can you expect after 30+ years of the same regime. Who's to blame? Primarily the media who keep it going. Seen the Post Metro Section lately?

Anonymous said...

You mean the Post's Expanded Obituary Section?

Hit a new low yesterday. Post won't feature independents and third party candidates running for Congress locally, featured a former local resident, a Democrat, who's running for Congress in California.

A.Y., I nominate Zimmy and the Post as the worst of Arlington, 2011.

You won't get any argument from me, either is an excellent choice.
