Hey Yupette,
As you may have seen, Alexandria City Council voted 6-1 last Saturday to gentrify the middle class and working class out of Arlandria (older neighborhood just across Four Mile Run from Arlington). Older apartments will be replaced by 478 units of upscale housing with 28 units being set aside as 'affordable' (rents ranging form $1100 to $1450 per month). So look for the middle class who work and live in Arlandria to move to Spotsylvania and commute back and forth one to a vehicle. Who said that only the Arlington County Board is in the pockets of developers?
Alex.

Take a ride down Route 1 south of Ft. Belvoir and see what the Smart Growth Elitists are doing to the outer suburbs.
Affordable housing in Alexandria? Rob Krupicka's McMansion in Del Ray is to affordable housing as Denny's Restaurants are to Weight Watchers.
Alexandria's Supreme Leader isn't in the pockets of developers, he IS a developer.
Southern PW County? What a mess.
Everything related to so-called Smart Growth is an Elitist, Developer, Politrickster charade. As events inside the beltway have proven month after month and year after year.
If I ever hear the words 'Smart Growth' in my SW Virginia county, I am outta here for a county 50 miles away.
Keep the lawyers and realtors off your board of supervisors and you wont hear the words smart growth.
They just want to bulldoze farmland for their damn McMansions. Bunch of upscale pigs is what they are.
Don't forget HOT Lanes to / from Prince William County...which will start at Edsall Road.
So how do the middle class workers who work but can't afford to live in Arlandria get to I-395 and thence to the HOT lanes?
Majority of Alexandria City Council are racists and elitists, just like the majority of the Arlington County Board.
Ridge Runner...wild guess...they drive across Four Mile Run and get on already traffic-choked South Glebe Road to 385?
Do you think they will drive down Route 1 to PW County during rush hours?
If some activist or activists circulate an anti-Smart Growth petition, I will be among the first to sign.
"Smart Growth" is killing Arlington County as a suburb.
"Smart Growth" is also killing agriculture in eastern Virginia, eastern Maryland, Delaware, southeast Pennsylvania, etc.
Krupica, Euille, Pepper, Donley, etc., are Democrats In Name Only.
At least the Alexandria Times will report the controversy, unlike the Post, Sun Gazette, FC News-Press shills for 'Smart Growth'.
It all started with Jim Moran gentrifying Old Town 35 years ago. Then Del Ray. Now whatever middle class housing is left.
What's changed in 250 years? George Washington owned a McMansion on the shore of the Potomac and a townhouse in trendy Old Town.
If Krupicka doesn't own the biggest in-fill McMansion in Del Ray, close to it.
I resent my formerly-quiet residential street becoming a 'linear park' for nearby in-fill development. I live in Del Ray off Mt. Vernon Ave.
Speaking of parks, there is about zero park land in western Del Ray and Euille and Krupicka are allowing in-fill redevelopment to occur in areas where the community amenities are either non-existent or at capacity.
I am also concerned about formerly-quiet residential streets becoming 'linear parks'. Courtesy of Alexandria 'Planning Staff' who live nowhere near Alexandria.
Krupicka is a facilitator for business interests and business deals.
Don't forget Delegate David "Special Interests Are My Interest" Englin. Another denizen of Del Ray.
Why play games and pull punches regarding Del Ray? Del Ray is increasingly 'off limits' to minorities. Upscale Whites Only...except for low-paid restaurant workers and servants. Enforced by the Alexandria Police Department.
Rob Krupicka is incredibly biased towards massive yuppification. Probably because he's a Total Yuppie.
Bill Euille is an African-American who doesn't like African-Americans.
