Hello, Yupette,
Did you hear Barbara Favola's statement about the cost of stormwater management and treatment at Tuesday's County Board meeting? It's going to be very expensive. Barbara stated that stormwater management and treatment upgrdes mandated by the federal government and State of Virginia may cost more than $500 million.
So why is she and the County Board promoting higher density along the Pike and elsewhere that will generate large amounts of additional stormwater?

Just send the bill to Dover, Kohl.
Favola has been paid off by the developers. In the outer counties that she loves to belittle, developers make tens of thousands of dollars of contributions for every unit they build to fund infrastructure like stormwater management. But can we expect the same from her developer campaign contributors John Shooshan and Preston Carruthers in Arlington County? Ain't gonna happen because it's all about Barbara.
How about Barbara using some of here private sector lobbying expertise to influence EPA to stop hitting Arlington taxpayers with a heavy hand?
So, what does this mean? County puts a $500 million stormwater bond issue on the ballot? So the people whose storm water goes on their front and rear lawns pay to treat the storm water from the in-fill on the Pike that goes into storm sewers?
Earth to County Board: Arlington's storm water is not discharged into Chesapeake Bay. It goes into the lower Potomac which is a 70 mile long fresh water / salt water tidal marine estuary from Chain Bridge to Smith Point / Point Lookout.
I would like to know who pays to treat the stormwater when a 2500 sq ft 50's ranch home on 1/2 acre with a gravel driveway and downspouts draining into the front and back yards is torn down and replaced by two 5000 sq ft McMansions.
Total cost of the new Yorktown, W-L, and Wakefield high schools will be about $400 million.
Visit Beautiful Kent Island, Maryland. Something for everyone at EPA, agricultural fertilizers directly into the Bay, point source pollution from McMansions directly into the Bay, area source pollution from strip shopping plazas directly into the Bay, area source pollution from marinas directly into the Bay.
County Staff does not dispute Barbara Favola's statement that managing and treating storm water is going to be very expensive, meaning $500 million.
Let's see...$568 million being spent on wastewater treatment upgrades and $500 million to be spent on stormwater management and treatment upgrades. That's more than $1 billion from a county with a population of 210,000 that's located 70 miles from the Bay.
Meanwhile, the people who live on the shore of the Bay get to directly pollute the Bay. DUH.
Arlington Way - Second Decade of the 21st Century = Corporate Welfare + Welfare for the Wealthy
McMansions on the Bay? Like Dick Cheney's and Don Rumsfeld's?
FYI, my condo community in Fairlington disconnected the downspouts from the stormwater system decades ago. Stormwater drains onto grassy areas and flower beds.
How many older apartment buildings on the Pike do the same?
Almost impossible to find storm water retention ponds in Arlington County; after all that would require some space be green instead of paved over and redeveloped to fund pet political projects.
What's going on here? We are going to be subsidizing the lifestyle of the rich and famous who live on McMansions on the Bay with a big septic system, a big lawn, and a big boat?
Hi Yupette, I will e-mail you a photo of the Kent Island environmental mess. In the event you don't believe the "Environmental Protection Agency" is an oxymoron.
I get it. We who live on the Potomac 70 miles from the Bay get to spend $500 million to SAVE the Bay while the richey riches (Rumsfeld and Cheney) who live on the shore of the Bay get to PAVE the Bay.
Someone asked Victor Dover about this during the Pike charettes and he just ignored the question.
Barbara Favola knew about this but it was never brought up in any public meeting over the past year with Dover, Kohl. I am NOT going to vote for that woman for anything.
Yes, for how many months were the new EPA / State stormwater regulations discussed during COG meetings before Barbara Favola brought it up at the last C.B. meeting?
DES and CPHD Staffs are clueless. Two or three major site plans are going to the County Board in September and DES and CPHD haven't started work on stormwater treatment and management plans that would conform to the new regulations.
Dover, Kohl is clueless. The stormwater from the Pike infill, as 'planned' by Dover, Kohl, would produce major flash flooding on Four Mile Run.
This is what we get for allowing a Republicrat Elite, their ward heelers, and their media shills to trash anyone who doesn't conform to their "vision".
Another reason not to vote for Barbara Favola.

No, this is what we get for electing and re-electing five urban village idiots to the County Board
Why do the blogs have to jump all over the County Board and County Government before there is any attention paid to this issue which may cost the taxpayers over $500 million?
Planning Commission discussed and voted on the Bergmann's mega-redevelopment without mentioning the environment except for remediation of perclorethylene in groundwater.

Where do you think the upscale developers, planners, and real estate execs live? Route 1 in PW County?
Instead of just venting, make sure to vote for Jaime Areizaga Soto on August 23rd for the Virginia State Senate Democratic Primary and send Favola a strong message!
