County Board to Finance Pet Projects With Massive Pike Gentrification

Hello, Yupette,

I was able to obtain a copy of Dover, Kohl's "Columbia Pike Land Use and Housing Study" over the weekend. This is the expensive planning document that was presented to the County Manager and County Board at a joint meeting last Thursday.

Contained in this document are the plans (mostly already pre-approved by the County Board) for massive in-fill gentrification of the Pike. Nothing is said about the effects of massive in-fill gentrification on already-crowded schools, parks, playgrounds, streets, etc.

It's clear that the County Board is using massive gentrification of the Pike to fund it's pet vanity projects. If the County Board were not building streetcar systems, boathouses, aquatic centers, sports arenas, and wasting money on its pet programs the County Board would have plenty of money to build lots of affordable housing and renovate present affordable housing. The County Board is aided and abetted by a bloated County bureaucracy that wants to grow by completely urbanizing Arlington, and by out-of-state "planners" like Dover, Kohl.

Want funds for affordable housing? Scrap the streetcar plans.

The other "planners" on Dover, Kohl's "planning" team are also out-of-state.

I would like to know what kind of intimidation tactics are being used one owners of affordable market rent apartments who have been providing affordable housing for decades AT NO COST TO TAXPAYERS?

The so-called "Plenary Group" is mostly composed of the County Board's all-time favorite ward heelers.

It's a classic Ponzi scheme, our suburban neighborhoods provide the land for their get-rich-quick redevelopment.

That's it Yupette. Too much dumb density. I can't take it anymore. Picking my family up and moving to Montana where we can live as middle class.

What kind of 'planners' fail to even mention the effect of doubling and tripling density on the neighborhood's schools?

Check with the County Board's all time favorite Planning Commissioner, Carrie Johnson, before you move to Montana.

For the $10 million that was TOTALLY WASTED on the Cherrydale Fire Station (including the $5.5 million gift to the fabulously wealthy Koons Auto Empire) the County could have renovated between 300 and 600 affordable housing units.

How much has all this "dumb growth" planning costing the taxpayers...including the week-long charades?

Earth to Sheeple - Dover, Kohl gets the goldmine, your kid gets a crummy trailer classroom.

Nothing mentioned about the environmental consequences of massive Pike in-fill, like storm water runoff.

I wonder if the out of state so-called "planning" consultants have children who are attending class in trailer classrooms?

If it comes down to building the aquatic center or our kids attending class in trailers, guess what they're going to do.

Know what they ARE concerned about? Having enough parking spaces under the mega-infill, having enough live entertainment for the mega-infill, and having enough indoor aquatics for the mega-infill.

They aren't concerned about dog exercise and bicycle exercise areas for the Pike in-fill, that's what our single-family residential neighborhoods are for.

What Dover, Kohl calls "parks" are actually 900 sq foot plazas adjacent to parking lots.

I just e-mailed Victor Dover and told him to please take his charade carnival back to Florida.
