Zimmerman Pushes 'Affordable Housing' Charade Forward to 2015

Hi Yupette,

Check out the 'Proposed Revisions to Arlington's Goals and Targets for Affordable Housing', Zimmy's jive turkey affordable housing charade (Agenda Item 30 on Saturday's County Board Meeting Agenda). It's all the same old promises and little or no action and money spent to ameliorate the huge effects from County Board's massive 'Resegration Through Gentrification' program about to be implemented everywhere in the County. A 'Comprehensive Homeless Service Center to Treat and Prevent Homelessness'? Another promise pushed forward to 2015 while Zimmey spends $3 million this year to design his Pike streetcar system that will cost taxpayers $138 million to put 12 streetcars on the Pike. Time to throw the bums out? You bet.

County CPHD Staff are so lazy they crossed out 2010 and inserted 2015 at various places in the Staff Report recommendations for prolonging homelessness in Arlington.

These are ONLY Goals and Targets, just more jive from Boss Zimmerman who WILL gentrify the Middle Class out of Arlington within 10 years.

So, they are going to gentrify out another 20,000 people and they just push forward the date they will try to find homes for them to 2015? Sounds about right.

We, they have to pretend to do something. Housing Division has a phone-a-thon going with the out-of-state REITs and is pushing the local companies who own rental housing to sell out and redevelop.

Yes, Zimmerman's goal is to have Arlington totally Yuppified in 10 years.

God forbid that the Plutocrat County Board members have to live near County employees.

The Poverty Pimps in the Ballston-Rosslyn corridor are happy they can go on earning big incomes for not doing anything about anything.

Don't expect anything but praise for this charade from the media. They are only interested in the ad revenue from the Fentyization aka Zimmerfication of market-rate rental housing.

Yes, it's true. The County Board (Zimmerman, Favola, Hynes) dislikes the classmates of their own children living in older rental apartments on the Pike.

Real Estate developer John Shooshan co-chairs the “Arlington’s Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness Leadership Consortium” with Barbara Favola.

Ten year plan? He’s displacing homeless today. Shooshan’s day job is developing Founder’s Square. According to a year 2000 Census taker I knew, that block (site of the old Metro bus barn) had the highest concentration of homeless people in Arlington.

The staff report for this agenda item cost at least $250,000 in staff time to produce. For what? 'Goals and Targets' that will not be achieved and will again be deferred in 2015.

County Board is awarding $490,000 to design Mosaic Park to be a de facto private rec area for Founder's Square, agenda item 19 on Saturday's County Board agenda.

Yupette, on the Hill they are talking about a 60 day unpaid furlough for federal workers. Sixty days.

Zimmy is also going to subsidize his buddy Charlie Denny's bicycle sharing corporation with a $243,000 gift from Arlington's Taxpayers. Agenda Item #22.

All a bunch of jive turkey promises.

Housing Division IS NOT trying to end homelessness. Housing Division is contacting REITs and apartment owners to push gentrification that will create more homelessness.

Know who Zimmy's biggest Pike mega-development enablers are? The Pike Wire and Arl Now blogs.

Remember the Howard Manor charade from the last County Board meeting? Well, the deal was in the works for 6 months and the County Board's angst about losing the opportunity for affordable housing because of a March 10th deadline was a carefully-arranged live performance to benefit the "non-profit" developer whose executives typically earn $180,000 a year and up. County Board long ago stopped caring about Arlington residents and only cares about its own interests and the interests of its friends.

Notice what's been occurring the past few weeks? Republicans are conspiring with the Dems to create a County that's of, by, and for Limo Liberals and Country Club Republicans.
