County Board Ignores EFC Residents, Advertises EFC Redevelopment

Hello, Yupette,

I was appalled by today's County Board Meeting. Appears that the County Board makes its 'planning' decisions in secret based upon secret communications and secret deals arranged by county staff, developers, REITS, consultants, industry groups, and other 'interested parties'.

Concerned EFC residents who expressed grave reservations about massive redevelopment of their single-family residential communities (EFC, Westover, and Williamsburg) were totally ignored by the County Board, and were treated like children by Barbara Favola and Mary Hynes.

As Arlington Yupette has repeatedly stated, the County Board considers Arlington's suburban residential communities to be 'redevelopment opportunities' for any and all developers, REITs, and other 'interested parties'.

Time to Vote the Bums Out.

Ted, after the County spent more than 20 years and more than $17 million Cherrydale residents will finally (we hope) have a new fire station in June, thanks to Barbara Favola.

Duh, who do they listen to? Their hand picked "community leaders," county staff, the REITS, the developers, and anyone else who's on the County Board's "development for the sake of development" team.

You forgot to mention their Chamber of Commerce Media Enablers - Nick Benton and Scott McCaffrey.

Shameless the way Mary Hynes and Barbara Favbola spoke to the EFC residents at the County Board meeting yesterday.

The County Staff who pushed this onto EFC don't live in Arlington. Richard Tucker lives in DC.

Know what happens next? A site plan by site plan redevelopment like Shirlington with ugly buildings, massive parking garages and speed tables every hundred feet in single family home neighborhoods.

All the Arlington Sun Gazette owners and Falls Church News Press owner Nick Benton care about is more ad revenue from redevelopment. I don't read their papers and I told several of their advertisers I don't read their papers.

Where were the Greens? They spoke about a homeless shelter and left the meeting.

Site plans? Check out the public comments at yesterday's meeting by June O'Connell. County Staff is secretly rewriting site plan conditions for new construction, aided and abetted by the developers.

The EFC Metro Station area will be a total zoo. Just like the area around Shirlington has become.

So, when the Yups who live in Shirlington grow up and want a single family home for their 3 year old with a back yard on a quiet street what's going to be available in EFC, Williamsburg, and Westover? McMansions at $2 million and up?

County Staff was ordered to ignore EFC residents except for the County Board's hand picked community leaders.

Anyone who still believes The Arlington Way is anything except the Arlington County Board's Way should review the video of Agenda Item 31 last Saturday.

Look at the Post. The Elitists there desperately want Vince Gray out and Adrian Fenty back as Mayor so they can regain the momentum for resegregation through gentrification.

This is going to be a site plan by site plan redevelopment like Potomac Yards and Shirlington. End result will be a mess.
