Zimmerman Kicks off Massive Pike 'Resegregation Through Gentrification' Campaign

Hey, Yupette,

After awarding another pet developer with mega millions in bonus density for yuppifying Ashton Heights, Chris Zimmerman proceeded to the Arlington County Trades Center to supervise the real business of the day - the meeting of the Plenary Committee charged with the total (and I mean TOTAL) gentrification through re-segregation of the Pike. Who are the members of the Zimmerman-appointed Plenary Committee? His typical Democratic ward heelers, most of whom live nowhere near the Pike. Zimmy also brought in the usual out of state developers and planners and County Staff who don't live in the County helped coordinate the event. As for the Latinos who live on the Pike, they were not invited.

Yupette, what is really scary is that Chris Zimmerman has become such a megalomaniacal nut case about driving the Latinos out of Arlington that he even wants to force the families who've owned rental real estate along to Pike for decades to sell out for redevelopment. And he's had Arlington Economic Development figuring out how he can force them to do that.

What's Zimmy after? Turning the Pike into a yupscale canyon of ugly postmodernist buildings, populated by yupscale renters and condo owners with trendy retail and 300 vehicle parking garages beneath the buildings. And a $200 million trolley system blocking rush hour traffic on the Pike. Duh.

Zimmy's County Staff Total Gentrification Enablers will be hosting multiple meetings next week regarding Total Pike Gentrification. One of them will be on Monday, January 24th between 6 PM and 10 PM at GMU's Arlington Campus, Founders' Hall, 3315 N. Fairfax Drive. Latinos and Latinas MAY be allowed to speak out against the destruction of any more affordable housing on the Pike. Go to the County's Web site to see a list of all the meetings, arlingtonva.us

Yeah, Zimmy's such a Racist and Elitist he can't bear to see working class Latinos and Latinas living down the hill from his under-assessed yupscale home on S. 16th Street. SOME DEMOCRAT.

Of course, anyone who has any significant input to the final parameters of the Zimmerfication of the Pike is White and Yupperclass.

OK, where was Arlington County's biggest puto, Nada Tejada, during this meeting? Playing futbol or watching futbol on TV, I bet.

Bet you two doughnuts that Chamber of Commerce flunky Scott McCaffrey awards two thumbs up to Zimmy on Monday, once for the corporate welfare package to the Ashton Hts. developer and the other for beginning the process of Pike total gentrification.

Yeah, an entire session today about how to motivate the owners of well preserved rental properties on the Pike to sell out for re-development. Sad. Sad. Sad.

Hey, they took videos, so you may be able to view the appalling events on-line.

I was born in the USA and my ancestors were from Northern Europe. I live in the Barcroft Apts. So what's the matter with me? I guess it's because I only earn $55,000 a year.

Did someone mention the Pike will look like the Grand Canyon with rail tracks at the bottom of the Canyon?

Anonymous said...

All they talked about was 'redevelopment opportunities'.

22204 said...

Pikester, you ought to see if you can find a new place to live that's half affordable, 'cause Zimmy despises the Barcroft Apartments.

Bet a donut that the cops will be at the Monday public meeting at GMU to scare away the Latinos.

Has anyone mentioned that Zimmerman and his followers are racists and elitists?

School Board is behind Zimmy....his redevelopment gentrifies out the remaining neighborhoods of low income "problem" students.

I guess we are gonna be stuck with HOT lanes in some form, 'cause there is no way I-395 can accommodate 20,000 more vehicles of the workers who are gentrified out.

Good topic for an AY post, because Zimmerman was asked point blank about HOT lanes, BRAC traffic from Mark Center, and the 100,000+ commuters who will arrive at the EFC Metro station at during morning and evening rush hours and refused to answer.

Whomever named Chris Zimmerman the "Guru of Gridlock" is right on. The guy is an arrogant and incompetent jerk who screwed up Metro and blamed everyone else, now he's set to do his vision thing on South Arlington.

It gets worse, Zimmy put the planning staffer responsible for the Shirlington parking and traffic mess in charge of coordinating the County's transportation "planning".

Did someone mention affordable housing in Shirlington? Zimmy approved a grand total of 15 affordable units in Shirlington. That's correct - 15 affordable units.

I hear Zimmerman is letting out contracts with pet consultants to target Fillmore Garden Apartments "(a)n affordable community village nestled among 23 tranquil acres of mature trees in bustling Arlington" as a following gentrification project. He's got idealogue toadies like Chris Slatt and Stefanie Pryor lined up to supply "community input." Zimmerman's ultimate dream is to see all the red brick homes and clapboard homes along Columbia Pike redeveloped as McMansions.

Uh, maybe I'm wrong, but the flyer for the Monday night meeting @ GMU is entitled "Let's Talk Housing: A Dialogue on Affordable Housing". I don't see any gentrification experts on it.

Yeah let's TALK affordable housing. Like they talked about affordable housing in redeveloped Shirlington - grand result was 15 affordable units.

Like they talked about affordable housing in Potomac Yards.

Zimmerman has his usual pet ward heelers who live nowhere near the Pike facilitating the TOTAL gentrification of the Pike corridor. The minority and moderate income residents of the Pike weren't invited to discuss the future of their own neighborhoods.

No doubt about it, Zimmerman and his crewe want every poor and minority person who lives in South Arlingtom OUT of Arlington County. There is no talk about preservation.

Dialogue Huh? said...

You talk with me, I talk with you -- dialogue check. Now we can get back to listening to the developers. Civic Associations that speak for the people charge a poll tax. That's the Arlington Way.

FYI, Here's some info. about Zimmy's pet out-of-state planner-developer who is facilitating the Plenary Committee composed of Zimmerman's fellow pro-gentrification lackeys:

Chris Zimmerman was also responsible for the total absence of affordable housing in Potomac Yards and the almost total lack of affordable housing in Shirlington when both were re-developed.

Zimmerman is a Republican pig. Democrats like FDR built housing for moderate income workers in Arlington Fairlington and Buckingham Village (dedicated by Eleanor Roosevelt) are two examples.

Zimmerman wants to do to the Pike what he did to WMATA.

Kevin D. - 22204 said...

I guess all the citizens forums (like tonight's at GMU) will be held in N. Arlington. What a bunch of racists run this County.

Anonymous said...

OF COURSE they will be held in N. Arlington. Can't inconvenience the North Arlington residents who will be rubber stamping Zimmerman's decisions about the Pike.
