Hello Yupette,
I am just amazed that the County Board and the local media, specifically the Arlington Sun Gazette, would endorse County Treasurer Frank O'Leary's car tax decal program. This program unnecessarily generates at least 10 tons of plastic and paper waste every year. I have to believe that Jay Fisette's citizens environmental committee is another County Board charade for allowing this kind of environmental damage to continue. Where are the Republican and Green parties? The Arlington Green Party is keen to keep plastic out of the environment. The Republican Party is always complaining about wasted tax dollars. I guess they must be sitting around watching the NFL playoffs together and carping about County Government during commercials.

Don't expect anything from the Sun Gazette - McCaffrey has to meet General Electric's profit targets every quarter and won't take a position about anything controversial. Hence the drivel about his dreams, squirrels in his neighborhood, etc. If you want to read a real local newspaper, pick up an Alexandria Times in Shirlington.
Fairgrrl the Greens and Repubs don't even bother to attend public meetings and make comments, so what can you expect?
This is one reason my daughter does not attend public school in Arlington, though I'm an Arlington resident. Parents should be outraged that the School Board allows O'Leary to use children to further his personal anti-environment pet interest.
Wait until you see the bi-partisan support for giving Marymount University and Bishop O'Connell HS a huge gift from Arlington taxpayers via the County Board.
Arlington Republican Party and Arlington Green Party are headed by former federal government bureaucrats who would rather play politics than win elections. After i saw the tea partiers in action last year I changed my political affiliation to "Independent".
McCaffrey just published a letter taking him to task for his massive conflict of interest being on the Arlington Chamber's Executive Committee.
Sun Gazette is controlled by chamber of commerce neo-cons in Dallas and Leesburg.
Sun Gazette, Sun Gazette's parent corporation, and the Arlington Chamber are all pro Big Business. Did you see McCaffrey give a thumbs down to the Ballston BID? Did you see the Arlington Chamber oppose the Ballston BID? Nuff said.
Frank O'Leary and Ingrid Morroy run bloated bureaucracies. They are always looking to extract more tax revenue for small business to keep the County Board's and their own special interests going. If the Arlington Chamber of Commerce were really pro-business it would be calling for Frank O'Leary to end the car tax decal program.
oops, meant "extract more tax revenue from small business"
Unlike the U.S. Chamber of Commerce the Arlington Chamber of Commerce is anti-renewable energy, anti-small business, and anti-minority business. I own a small commercial cleaning business and want nothing to do with the Arlington Chamber.
Where is ACTA, the so-called Arlington County Taxpayers Association? They don't bother even showing up at meetings anymore.
Having seen how the last elections played out I would have to agree with Independent. Chris Berg (Chair of the Arlington Republican Party) and John Reeder (Chair of the Arlington Green Party) are so used to playing games as former federal bureaucrats that they are incapable of actually electing someone to public office, nor effecting any meaningful change that departs from the status quo.
They are ALL worthless a-holes who want to keep the same old same old going until they retire to Sarasota in 5-10 years and leave those of us in our 30's and 40's to clean up their mess.
You got that right, Jeff.
What a negative blog this is. All you do is complain? Maybe you all should just move.
Keep on-track, Yupette, this is the only media venue that is not controlled by an out-of-state corporation.
