Snow Removal is Unacceptable

Hello, Yupette,

I live near Marymount University and snow removal is unacceptable again this year. My street (which has no parked vehicles) had one lane plowed down the middle of the street. Several dead end streets and cul de sacs weren't plowed at all. What a terrible job of snow removal. Why do we put up with this, year after year?

Because Barbara Donnellan is County Manager, year after year.

Suggestion - send the people who plow snow to snow plowing school. They have to take courses in excavating and moving dirt around, don't they?

Look, Barbara Donnellan and 80% of the other County employees don't live in Arlington. Snow removal, like anything else, is just the way they earn a living. Plus, they have to fight traffic to get from their affordable homes in PW County to unaffordable Arlington. So what can you expect?

Don't forget that they also have to drop off and pick up their kids at an Arlington school on the way to and from work.

The plowing of streets with parked vehicles was awful. Better they didn't plow those streets than plow in the vehicles parked along the curb.

Time for a TOTAL MORATORIUM on any new in-fill construction. TOO MANY vehicles parked in Arlington already. We're supposed to be a suburban county, not a bunch of mega-infill opportunities for the REITs.

You are a bunch of whiners. I ride my mountain bike in all kinds of weather. So should you. Stop reading this blog and start listening to Jay Fisette.

No more on-street parking. No more mixed-use infill development. Go ride your mountain bike in the Bermuda Triangle.

No more 'Smart Growth'.

Call Marymount's Chief Lobbyist, Barbara Favola, at 228-3130. Tell her you are on the faculty of the Favola School of Government Spending at Marymount, that you live in an unplowed cul de sac 1/2 mile from the University, and that you have to attend several critical FY 2012 County budget meetings on-campus. That should get your street adequately plowed.

Don't worry...Be Happy. Superbowl parties are starting now. St. Patrick's Day mega-partying will start in a month.

Remove Barbara Donnellan. One less non-resident commuter from Fairfax County.

Did you read McCaffrey's Chamber of Commerce-approved diatribe against Arlington's HOT Lanes litigation? Does McCaffrey care that his own neighbors are against HOT Lanes and are are very concerned about the BRAC mega-infill at Mark Center? Nope. Scotty's concerns about his neighborhood are limited to the health of the squirrel population.

Think traffic is bad now when there's even rain falling? Try 50,000 more vehicles in/out of Arlington on 395 during rush hours.

McCaffrey loves HOT Lanes. He also wants I-66 widened. HOT Lanes on I-395 would make his commute to his office on Edsall Road easier from his home in Fairlington by reducing local traffic. A widened I-66 would make his weekly commute to Middleburg easier. Plus, he's a shill for the Arlington Chamber of Commerce which never met a highway it didn't want to widen.

Retire Donnellan (again).
