Greens Scored Against Well-Financed, Media Supported Incumbents

Congratulations to Kevin Chisholm, Ron Fisher, and Miriam Gennari for doing well against well-funded and media-supported incumbents. Green and Independent candidates need only one more thing to win - enough campaign funds to overcome the incumbents' campaign financing advantage and the significant media bias against third party and independent candidates.

Thumbs Down to the high-school editors of the local weeklies who prentend to be 'journalists'. You know who you are.

Two Thumbs Down - to local weeklies printing 'news' supplied by local governments and paid for by taxpayers in the form of press releases week-after-week while ignoring challengers. Then claiming a week before the elections that an incumbent's opponent is "a blank slate".

The media have got to grow up and accept excellent Green and Independent candidates being on the ballot and running competitive campaigns.

Whine... But if I endorsed Miriam Gennari I would be kicked off the Chamber's Board of Directors..Whine

The Washington Gentrification Post will never accept Green Party candidates as part of a democratic system. The Post's income (and the Post is controlled by Warren Buffett who only cares about the bottom line) depends upon gentrifying everyone who does not have a large amount of disposable income out of the region and replacing them with people who do.

As a former ACG employee (lots more on that if you're nice to me), I am pleased to see that you all seem to get it with regards to Zimmy.

However.

If you *really* want him out, you might want to consider not wasting your votes on Greens or Independents. It's in the interest of both of the major parties to keep them down. You'll never see a member of the Green party on the County Board, and it's unlikely you'll ever see an Independent.

For better or worse, you have 2 choices. You had a golden opportunity this go-round with a moderate Republican running against Zimmy.

If you're happy with the status quo, continue to waste your vote. If you want him out, vote for the viable alternative. If you're too close-minded to do that, your whining about Zimmy is just...whining.

Bulls---t to that. Kelly ran a poor campaign. Anyone else who ran as a Republican in Arlington would have done better than Mark Kelly. He doesn't attend meetings (soccer practice, you know) Republican Party in Arlington is welfare for the wealthy Country Clubbers vs.w acko NeoCons. I'll take my chances with the Greens and Independents.

What's your real problem X? Republican Party can't stand the competition from superior candidates who don't spew the neocon dogma?

Where are the moderate Republicans who COULD get elected? Getting appointed by Zimmy to the Planning Commission and other advisory groups where they rubber stamp whatever the County Board puts in front of them.

We don't want to be co-opted by slime balls like Patrick Murray.

Arlington Republican Party is a bunch of malicious busybodies and rumormongers.

Patrick Murray? Same Colonel Patrick Murray who was passed over for promotion to Brigadier General because of his hostility to various minority groups?

Moran blew Murray out of the water with ONE campaign postcard sent to Democrats and Independents with Murray's publicly-stated bigoted views on social issues.

If you Repubs want to win here's how - Wayne Kubicki for County Board in 2011, Dave Foster for Congress in 2012. Stop yer whining about the Greens and Independents who are out there campaigning with good candidates. All Arlington Republicans can do really well is start and spread malicious rumors. Pretty sad.

Colonel Murray traveled around Europe during W's Presidency and was wined and dined by the neo-cons and neo-fascists. He was never shy about making his views about gays, minorities, liberals, etc., known. So, surprise, After Obama became President and Murray was up for promotion to BG, guess what happened?

President McCain would not have approved Murray's promotion to BG.

Duh said...

Patrick Murray is a fringe neo-con wacko who got angry with Obama for not promoting him to brigadier general after Murray spent years disparaging African-Americans. Duh.

Zimmerman is a corporate shill, like all Democrats. Like Barack OilyBomber.

Creepublicans are worse, much worse. Wait until you see the neo-fascist tea partiers in action on the Hill.

F-ing Republican scum. We should have an efficient single payer health care system, not the f-ing mess we are stuck with. And, speaking of Wall Street, who wanted to privatize Social Security 5 years ago and hand the trust funds to the hedge funds?

As far as AC politics go X has a point. Let us all read a little Sun Tzu before embarking on the next campaign.

As far as Arlington politics goes, it's lose-lose from both parties. Winners are the corporate welfare recipients.

My point was simply that it's unlikely that a Green or an independent could beat Zimmy, and if you dislike him so much, perhaps you should consider a viable alternative. As an aside, I have no alliance to either of the two 'status quo' parties.

It's too bad folks are so rigid in their party politics that they are unwilling to actually think and perhaps reconsider in order to accomplish a larger goal. We see this on the national level too, do we not?

The underlying assumption that I am a Republican (which I am not) for merely suggesting that perhaps you might consider one to get rid of Zimmerman makes this point. You want to shoot me because you make assumptions.

The message I hear is that you don't like Zimmy and Fay, but you think voting for a candidate who will only scrape up a couple thousand votes tops in a general election will get them out of office. It's your vote, but good luck with that.

OTOH: a shout-out to those here who are a bit more thoughtful.
