Fairlington Citizens Tell CivFed - Fairlington Citizens Assoc. Doesn't Represent Us

Dear Arlington Yupette,

I and others in our group, Better Fairlington, e-mailed the Civic Federation yesterday. We don't want the Fairlington Citizens Association, Inc. representing us, nor do we want the Fairlington-Shirlingtion NCC representative (appointed by the FCA) representing us.

There is entirely too much micro-managing of our lives by this organization. This organization also engages in other inappropriate activities in and around Fairlington - the FCA's ongoing feud with Shirlington restaurant owners being the most embarrassing.

Almost all of us are college graduates and our lives are already governed by County ordinances and condominium regulations. We don't need or want another organization that claims it knows what's best for us making us follow its often-irrational agenda.

Best regards,

Susan

Susan, look what they did to the Fairlington Community Center - off limits to the community because it's run for organizations and organized activities, many of them for-profit.

What has the Civic Federation done except continuously run their mouths? Oh, they just selected an African-American to be on their board of directors. Deja vu 1965.

Kudos for knocking chinks in the armor of the shadow government. Keep it up!

Want to know how bad this so-called 'civic association' is? Well, for 30 years residents in Fairlington Commons (near the community center) had been complaining about wastewater backups from an inadequate wastewater sewer system. This was occurring in a neighborhood a short distance from Paul Ferguson's and Libby Garvey's neighborhood. Took the County 3 decades to put an adequate wastewater sewer system in that neighborhood. Work is now in progress. A new soccer field took priority - which is off limits to residents, for organized team sports only.

Look what happened to the Walter Reed "Community" Center. They made it into a senior center and organized sports complex.

So, after giving Zimmerman 61% of the vote on November 2nd he and the County Board totally ignore our requests for street repaving, street tree maintenance, upgrading of street lighting, upgrading of traffic signs, and initiating the process to build a new fire / EMS station in the vicinity.

Why should I vote for Tejada and Hynes next year?

How long before the newly and expensively sodded soccer field at the Fairlington Community Center is pounded into mud from overuse?

How long after that occurs will it be before the Soccer Moms and Soccer Dads attend County Board meetings demanding a lighted all-weather synthetic surface soccer field?

Watch out, Susan, Nanny Nancy and her buds who run the FCA are looking to call the cops on any Fairlington resident they see as a "suspicious person".

Just as we predicted would happen - lots of Shirlington residents driving up to Fairlington - 1 per vehicle - and using our entire community as a big rec center. Thanks to Jay Fisette, Paul Ferguson, and their ward heelers.

If I were FRIT and the Shirlington restaurant owners I would tell the Fairlington civic association and its NCC rep to take a big cold carrot out of their refrigerators and SIT ON IT !!!

Time for a Fairlington Tea Party?

Zimmerman and the County Board ignored Fairlington residents' repeated requests for basic services and infrastructure upgrades for our community. Like about 30 other communities in Arlington. Let's stop re-electing these jerks who only care about their pet special interests.

Think it's only happening in Fairlington? My street in North Arlington has pavement worthy of a Third World county. Of course I don't live near the Favola Luxury Infrastructure Zone surrounding Marymount University.

Given how Fairlington's repeated requests for basic services have been ignored this community would have to be crazy to vote for Hynes and Tejada next year.

So what...Susan. Don't like it? Move to Fairfax County.

I'm a Shirlington Village resident. When do WE get to make decisions for ourselves?
