Another Campaign Season...Usual Media Shenanigans

Hello Yupette:

Another Fall campaign season is beginning. With the usual "Re-Elect All Incumbents" shenanigans by the region's media. The Post is really outrageous this year, supporting Mayor Adrian "Gentrification" Fenty to an extent that is embarrassing to honest journalists. The other local newspapers are not much better.

Post has to make Warren Buffett happy. Middle class people don't buy luxury items and that's bad for advertising.

Posties are Elitists who don't want minorities living within 50 miles of downtown D.C., with the exception of minority Elitists like Barack Obama, Bill Euille, and Adrian Fenty.

Read the Post today? Out to try to save Fenty's campaign and keep the advertising $$$ from gentrification rolling in.

Post endorsed Jim Graham today, based upon Graham's success in gentrifying Ward 1, which his good bud, Adrian Fenty, has emulated as Mayor.

Post is as corrupt as Graham.

I e-mailed the Post's Ombudsman and asked who writes the Post's editorial page endorsements, the vice-presidents for advertising?

The Post's Elitists have summer interns go through candidates' campaign literature and press releases to find phrases like "affordable middle class housing" to determine who the Post will and won't endorse.

What Fenty, Graham, the Post, etc., are up to is called 're-segregation through gentrification'.

Fenty's model for "urban planning" is urban South Africa.

Yeah, that's correct, they're a bunch of Elitists who want anyone with a household income of less than $200,000 / year living in big condo communities, trailer courts, and huge apartment complexes on what was once agriculture land and forests 50 miles outside DC.

You would be surprised at how much advertising revenue flows to news media that look the other way when controversial development projects are proposed and are before some regulatory body for approval.

EFC Homeowner said...

Look the other way - you mean like Nick Benton and Scott McCaffrey covered the EFC Redevelopment when the communities near the EFC Metro station expressed their outrage?

FC said...

Nick Benton? Largely responsible for the mess that FC's downtown has become - he was President of the FC Chamber of Commerce and is a big Chamber booster.

Not co-incidentally the developers rewarded Nick handsomely with advertising in the newspaper he owns and publishes, the FC News Press, where he continually editorializes for downtown re-development.

McCaffrey is well on his way to joining Nick Benton in the real estate multi-millionaires club from writing real estate supplements that sell 'pave paradise' McMansion development in the outer burbs.

Same old tired rhetoric from the print media. Third party and independent candidates are ignored (as usual)).

Post and the local weeklies are really bad when it comes to the environment. On a scale of 1 to 10 they are a minus 2. Local chambers of commerce who pull the editors' strings are heavily influenced by the utility companies, fossil fuel energy companies, McMansion builders, auto dealers, etc. So the jive turkey editors not only have to appease their anti-environment advertisers but their anti-environment local chambers of commerce.

Post and News-Press are owned and operated by Clinton Democrats. Sun Gazette is owned and operated by Neo Cons.

How about the anti-environment propaganda and science fiction we get via cable and the Discovery Channel, National Geographic Channel, Nature Channel, etc.?

Wash Post Sucks - Here's Why said...

(From the Post's D.C. Council endorsements, September 2nd, page A22)

"By contrast, we have no hesitation in endorsing Ward 1 incumbent Jim Graham even as we recognize his difficulties in the past year. His chief of staff was indicted in an alleged bribery scheme (the council member was not implicated), and the Metro board on which he served struggled with the transit system's dysfunction. First elected in 1998, Mr. Graham has set the standard, emulated by Mr. Fenty when he represented Ward 4, for how a ward council member attends to the interests of his constituents and, by advocating for better police protection and needed development, helped to transform Ward 1 neighborhoods."

Translation - The Post approves of the way Graham Guppified Ward 1 and Fenty Yuppified Ward 4 using the police to remove the black middle class concomitant with Yuppification.

Ever seen McCaffrey and Benton in person? The Oink Brothers.

Even the Yuppiecratic Sierra Club endorsed Vince Gray.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce endorses renewable energy. Local chambers of commerce defer to the local fossil fuel-powered utilities (e.g., Dominion Resources).

Jim Graham and Chris Zimmerman should both be on trial for negligent manslaughter re the July 2009 Metrorail crash.

Regarding the environment the local papers are such Yuptards they won't tell you the locations where you can recycle their newspapers

I'm 55 years old and can remember how the newspapers used to behave - responsibly.

There has been no local philanthropy from them for at least two decades. When they had money they were selfish and greedy, now they are financially strained they are even more selfish and greedy.

What they are very very good at doing is the "Nanny" thing - telling us that we have to do this and can't do that.

They also support the status quo to the extent they help the special interests keep the U.S.A. sitting dead in the water, lest anything offend a special interest advertiser.

Thanks for this blog, always interesting and informative.

Have you noticed that the Post is becoming shrill and obnoxious re Fenty vs. Gray?

I'm a retired journalist. It appears your local newspapers have serious ethical problems involving conflicts-of-interest. Do a Web search on 'journalism ethics'.

All you have to do is read the Weekend section of the Post on Friday to see where the Post and Fenty want to take D,C,

Nick 'Moran' Benton is hyping Merrifield redevelopment this week in the News Press. As if Merrifield doesn't have enough traffic.
