Local Government Is Becoming Even More Exclusive

Hello Yupette,

Have you noticed how exclusive local government is becoming?

The Eighth District congressional candidates' debate was hosted by the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and cost $45 to attend.

Jay Fisette's "State of the County" speech next month is sponsored by the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and will cost $50 to attend. (Is that legal)?

New County Manager's reception May 24th is a reservation-only event. No one acknowledges that you made a reservation to attend.

If you walk through 2100 Clarendon Blvd. when the advisory commissions are meeting, they are all white.

Then there's the Civic Federation and civic associations :-{

Near as I can figure, about 95% of the County's adult population has no influence on local government and our concerns are totally ignored!

More reasons to sign the change of government petition.

I am a Latina who was born in Arlington 37 years ago. I graduated from Wakefield H.S. and VCU. I own a small business. When I expressed interest in serving on the Planning Commission I was told that the "minority position" is filled by Mr. Dorsey and I would have to wait until he resigned to be considered.

County government is run by putos and putas of the wealthy elite.

CivFed claims 63 Delegates attended the last CivFed meeting, but only three from minority groups that I could see. What ever happened to Civil Rights?

They're Democrats, right? See anything improve for anyone except the yups during the Obama Administration? Me Neither.

Is the meeting where Jay Fisette is giving his speech on June 21st considered a County Board meeting?

Fisette and the rest no longer care about legal or illegal meetings. They meet all the time at events and don't tell anyone what they're up to.

CivFed finally put someone from a minority group on its Executive Committee for 2010-2011.

Jay Fisette wants the next $150 million bond issue to be for an aquatics center.

County Board only listens to the Developers, special interests, and the Chamber of Commerce.

How about Barbara Favola? She doesn't even want affordable housing in newly constructed apartment buildings in North Arlington.

Civic Federation has progressed - from 1955 to 1965 - looks like there will be a token African American on the CivFed's Executive Committee next year.

Reality about the aquatics center is that it will be a hedo party zone.
