Arlington taxpayers funded a huge Gala for the performing arts on October 10th to celebrate Arlington County's acquisition of the Newseum for a Cultural Center. The event took place four days after County Board Chair Barbara Favola announced Arlington taxpayers would likely see a major real estate tax increase next year. Information about the event can be found at arlingtonarts.org.

Yupette, they are ALL a bunch of greedy hedonistic PIGS. I will never vote for any Arlington Democrat nor the Republicans who get along and go along with their entertainment and recreation program.
Why doesn't the arts community pay for something, for a change? From the description of this event it cost the County at least $100,000.
I'm a single Mom with two teenage children. I can't afford to have my hair permed after all the bills are paid, much less take my kids out to any event in Arlington. We are not into Arlington's live theater scene, which is heavily into gay and lesbian themes. What's for us in all that's spent on live theater by Arlington County?
When does my street get repaved, in 2109?
Taxpayers apparently paid for valet parking for this event.
Seen anything about fiscal responsibility in the local media, e.g., Sun Gazette? Why not?
Both Cultural Affairs and the Rosslyn Business Improvement District are taxpayer funded.
What was the purpose of this event except to celebrate a County giveaway of tax dollars to wealthy arts organizations?
To see where the Arlington County Board stands on raising taxes to pay for lavish entertainment and recreation projects, Jay Fisette is bemoaning that DC won't host the Gay Games in 2012.
I would like to see the Alexandria Times publish an insert with Arlington news.
I live in Ohio. This is nuts. This is where our federal tax dollars are going - to a bunch of federal employees who spend their time at "work" planning the latest live theater extravaganza? Time to move the Federal Government out of Washington and into Middle America.
Dayton, when they aren't doing that they're micro-managing every aspect of everyone's life and spreading scurrilous gossip about everyone who doesn't go along with the program. Now that fiber optic is installed everywhere in the USA time to move the federal agencies out of the DC metro area.
Does anyone know what this event cost in overtime to County employees? Assuming they were working overtime.
That's what "federal workers" are really good at - micromanaging everyone's life for 30 years than retiring to a luxury enclave where no one is going to bother them
Hi Yupette, how about the thousands we are paying for a time capsule at the new Westover Library, which is 9 years late and where the planning cost exceeded the construction cost?
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Jose' W. Tejada promised Teatro de la Luna it's own theater building. You saw it here first.
