Republicratic Leadership Furious at Anti-HOT Lanes "Obstructionists"

Leaders of both the Republican (Bob McDonnell) and Democratic (Tim Kaine) Parties are furious at Arlington and Alexandria anti-Hot Lanes "obstructionists". Both political parties were recipients of hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from the corporations that signed contracts to build and operate HOT Lanes on I-495, I-95 and I-395. Moreover, for almost 8 years Republicratic leaders have been promising outer-suburb constituencies that more lanes would be added to I-66 and I-95.

How did Tim Kaine get elected in 2005? By driving around Virginia in his pick up truck convincing the NASCAR Bubbas that he would build more roads and widen Virginia's interstates.

McDonnell's supporters are NASCAR Bubbas who have never used public transportation and think AMTRAK is Socialist. What they want is to drive to their jobs inside the DC Beltway from their homes in Spotsylvania County at 70 mph.

Suggestion to DOD: Before 19,000 more people drive into Arlington and Alexandria to their DOD BRAC jobs start a major secure telecommuting program at Quantico and Ft. AP Hill.

Cindi said...

Makes sense for someone who lives in Spotsylvania County and works at the Pentagon to drive to AP Hill instead.

If HOT Lanes are constructed by 2012 the Bubbas for McDonnell will be back complaining in 2017 that traffic is stop and go.

Cindi, NASCAR Bubba wants to drive his custom F-250 pickup at 70 mph to the Pentagon parking lot where he can park it next to the other Bubbas' pickups.

For the cost of the hundreds of large parking garages constructed under commercial buildings inside the Beltway during the past decade we could have had a great transit system out to Spotsylvania and beyond.

Rush tells the Bubbas that publicly funded transportation systems, except for the airlines, is Socialism.

Rush should look at what's happened to the airlines since they were deregulated 30 years ago. But Rush makes $54 million a year and has not been on an airline flight in awhile.

McDonnell would be another Jeb Bush, who sold Florida to his campaign contributors and the neo-con good ole boys.

Cindi, Rush says it, the dumb ass Bubbas believe it, and that settles it - public transportation is "socialism." In case you wondered why there isn't commuter rail in the I-64 corridor, I-66 / Rt 29 corridor, I-81 corridor, etc.

What's the "growth industry" in the City of Alexandria? Auto dealerships.

What is something so rare you will never see it in Virginia? A NASCAR Bubba on a public transit bus.

Notice the Neo-Con Dumbases are all for stopping wasting money - unless the money is going to fight wars in the Third World.

Yupette, where is the Neo-Con concern about the billions that were wasted in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past 8 years?

Who approved the construction of more than 4,000 new parking spaces in Arlington County last year? Guru of Gridlock Chris Zimmerman and his fellow County Board members.

Of course I am voting for Bob McDonnell. Of course I believe Rush. I will never take a train or bus to the Pentagon from Spotsylvania. I have been driving pick ups to work for 20 years and I'm not about to give that up. You liberals may as well face reality you are going to get HOT lanes and a widened I-66 too.

OK, it's like this. You made Arlington unaffordable. At the same time a lot of jobs were created in Arlington from the events of 9-11-01. So you don't want affordable housing - it gets bulldozed into McMansions and expensive condos. And you don't want a good north-south and east-west transportation network. What do you want? For us to spend 2 1/2 hours every day driving home to Gainesville on I-66 and Spotsylvania =on I-95? Sure looks that way.

Whose to blame for Arlington's transportation and housing mess? Try Gentrification J. Fisette, aka Gourmet J. Fisette, aka Giveaway J. Fisette.

Anonymous said...

Who ELSE is to blame. Your Governor and DNC Chairman, Tim Kaine, who told the Nascar good old boys he was going to build more roads and widen the interstates when he was driving around Virginia in his pick up truck campaigning 4 years ago.

Nascar Bubba said...

P.S. I would be happy to drive to AP Hill rather than to Arlington or Alexandria.

Latest on the tranportation front, WMATA is selling the Ballston bus maintenance facility to developers. Anyome knoew how much parking is planned for the redevelopment which is, duh, 1/2 mile from I-66?

County Board approved the bus maintenance facility redevelopment, called Founders Square, last year. There will be 1,084 parking spaces for office buildings, 52 parking spaces for retail, and 413 parking spaces for residential buildings.

Yupette, looks like there will be a "sit down" between Barbara Favola and Sharon Bulova on October 21st to make some sort of deal about HOT Lanes and I-66.

Yupette, Kaine is trying to remove HOT Lanes and I-66 widening as an election issue. No matter what the consequences for those who live in the I-66 and I-395 corridors.
