Arlington County Sues to Stop HOT Lanes Construction

Arlington County filed a lawsuit in Federal District Court in Washington on August 19th to stop HOT Lanes from being constructed on I-395 / I-95. The County alleges that the Federal Highway Administration exempted the HOT lanes project from normal environmental review concerning air quality.

The Community Leaders all wanted to go along with VDOT. Residents of the affected communities in Arlington and Alexandria said "NO WAY".

This was never reported in the Sun-Gazette. Neither was the former Chief of the Alexandria Police Department serving a 5 day sentence in the Arlington Jail for DWI. The SG hasn't (yet) reported the preparations for the Cavalia Equestrian Show which will open in Pentagon City on September 11th.

I wish the Sun Gazette would just go away. It's all about Scott McCaffrey's personal opinions anymore.

I live in Fairlington. The so-called Fairlington Citizens Association - which is run by Nancy Hunt, Ed Hilz, and Sam Anthony - was trying to broker a deal whereby Fairlington residents would accept 25 foot sound barriers on the shoulders of 395 in return for us accepting HOT Lanes. We said NO. Special thanks to Mr. Jim Hursyz, who went after VDOT's consultant during the County Board's walk-through of Fairlington and made him admit in front of everyone that the sound barriers would have to be at least 80 feet high along 395 in Fairlington to be effective. In case you haven't noticed, the sound barriers along parts of 495 where the HOT lanes are being built are 80 feet high.

Cynthia, Arlington's "Community Leaders" are expected to go along with the County Board's program, no matter what the consequences for the community. In return they are appointed to various county advisory boards and commissions, which typically rubber stamp the County Board's agenda.

Hey, Yupette,

The Committee of 100 Elitists, only a few of whom live in the 395 corridor, are hosting a meeting to try to get HOT Lanes back on track. How about a thread?

Zimmerman does not speak for the people who live in the 395 corridor. He and the other county board members could care less about us, having made a deal with Hot Lanes Kaine and VDOT that they are trying to salvage.

BTW, if you want to find out just how much Arlington County really cares and the reality of its much-vaunted anti-discrimination policy, check out the blog of the Arlington county auxiliary police officer who was terminated for getting a concussion--while participating in an event to honor fallen officers. Way to honor your volunteers, Arlington...
