'Christmas in July' County Board Meeting Saturday

Hey, Yupette,

Arlington County Board's Annual Christmas in July Meeting will be held on July 14th with the carry-over Meeting on July 17th.

Biggest for-profit County Board Gift Recipients this year are Ballston Quarter (formerly Ballston Common) Mall Owner and Operator Forest City, and Crystal City Owner and Operator JBG/Smith (also the Landlord for the County Office Building). Placed on the County Board's Consent Agenda, of course.

Usual Christmas in July spending on the Consent Agenda for extravagant parks, recreation, and sports facility makeovers, grants to wealthy arts organizations, AHIF loans for more extravagant subsidized moderate-income housing (e.g., Berkeley Apartments).

Biggest non-profit Gift Recipients are various County and other bureaucracies (e.g.,WMATA) who will spend $2.8 billion over the next decade via the County's Capital Improvement Plan and funds from bond referenda (this year's referenda will allocate $243 million).

This year the County Board MAY throw a few crumbs to ordinary Arlington residents in the form of tax relief for Seniors and not having to bother affixing personal property tax stickers to vehicle windows anymore.

Too much more on the gift list to write about here, so go to arlingtonva.us -> County Board -> Meetings and Agendas and check it all out.

It gets worse. Not only are they handing out corporate welfare and welfare for the wealthy, but they're keeping the welfare for wealthy neighborhoods neighborhood conservation program going.

How about -- building every possible amenity for Office of Naval Research employees in Ballston Quarter and then paying off ONR via a $7.8 gift to ONR's landlord so ONR won't vacate it's 10 year old building for a new building in Alexandria? Who said the private sector are the only ones who are greedy?

Stay tuned to Seniors with moderate incomes and high real estate taxes being demonized for asking for real estate tax relief.

Seniors are the only ones seeking or receiving anything tomorrow who are means tested.

Forest City and JBG/Smith are getting HUGE amounts of corporate welfare.

Senior have been demonized for months because they are seeking relief from high taxes caused by the County Board's extravagant spending over decades.

Worst County Board meeting ever. Starting with the County Board's Summer Intern aka new County Board Clerk.

Worst was the demonization of Seniors by so-called 'progressives' for seeking tax relief from the high taxes inflicted on them by County Government's extravagant spending largely due to 'development for the sake of development'.

Stay tuned for the December County Board meeting. By then we'll know how much they promised Amazon.

In fact, C.I.P. does mean "Charades in Progress".

Where was Matt De Ferranti? Sitting under a tent in the Courthouse Plaza parking lot talking political trash with other Democrats.

Big winners were ART Bus, Wastewater Treatment Plant, and Developers.

You forgot WMATA's $29.7 present for capital improvements. Two more scare stories in the local media since Tuesday's CB meeting about WMATA and Metrorail.
