Hi,
I work for the County in Public Safety and I can't wait to leave County employment. Have resumes in 4 counties and a couple cities in NoVa. I'm not uniformed. Work in admin. What's the problem with Arlington's Public Safety employees? We're under-compensated and over-worked. Hiring hasn't kept pace with population growth for two decades. Police Department and Fire Department are way under-strength for the work load and population growth.
Yeah, lots of Arlington cops are a$$holes. They're really stressed, like the firefighters and paramedics. Too many calls for service. Too many complaints. Too much overtime required because the County really doesn't want to hire any more uniformed employees. Pols and the people they appoint keep telling us to "suck it up". That sucks.
It's always the same old problems, only more every year. Altercations at convenience stores, shoplifting in the malls, thousands of complaints against african americans, latinos, and homeless persons, parking lot fender-benders, domestic disputes, and suspicious person complaints by anyone about anyone else. The Fire Department is stressed by an increase in medical emergencies caused by an aging population.
If you're wondering why there's no community policing in the County, that's why. Everything in Public Safety is reactive, except for the employees who plan for events that will never occur.
So I'm looking forward to working in a less stressful environment in the near future.

You and at least 1/4 of Arlington's other public safety employees have Northern VA papered with resumes.
Then there's Arlington's growing population of Bros and Hoes.
You don't earn 500 hours of overtime a year doing community policing, unless the community happens to be Clarendon.
Some of the commanders earn 1,000 hours a year and up.
You would never know Arlington has a major league drug abuse problem unless you visit a local rehab center.
How much are all the special events costing taxpayers in terms of overtime for public safety employees? Also, how many public safety employees are available for ensuring public safety throughout the County during special events (e.g., St. Patrick's Day weekend this year)?
Young Arlington cops love the Bros, 'cause many of them served with the Bros when they were military police in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Anyone else see that bicycle bozo dressed in yellow lycra who runs stop signs and traffic lights at high speed and gives drivers the finger when they honk? Guess where he works?
Anyone seen or heard from the following recently: Jay Fisette, Mary Hynes, Walter Tejada, Chris Zimmerman?
I see many ACPD in court where I'm a criminal defense paralegal. I do not live in Arlington. There are about 100 stressed out cops. There are about a dozen Arlington cops who should not be on the force...any police force. Watch out for them. There are about 20 more who are cowboys / cowgirls. Watch out for them too. If the Chief and his Commanders don't want to ask for additional resources Arlington residents are stuck with what's there now.
Where I don't go: Macy's, 7-11, Clarendon, Pentagon City Mall, McDonalds.
What about the Evil Empire - Arlington's Democratic Regime that uses the Police Department to intimidate anyone who doesn't go along with the program?
Right - Democratic Regime tells minorities they will be arrested if they attend public meetings then makes public service commercials inviting residents to attend County Board meetings.
Can't have citizens asking questions in meetings like how much is being spent to bribe Amazon.
People doing the intimidating for ACDC are connected with the Sheriff's Department
How many units typically respond to a report of a homeless man stealing food from a 7-11 ? Four.
Then there are the surveillance videos captured via the County's dark fiber network.
Sheriff's Department employees do dirty tricks for ACDC.
Public Safety employees are very happy that they'll be earning mega overtime from the revitalized St. Paddy's Day Pub Crawl next month. Bonus dollars - St. Patrick's Day is on a weekend this year.
I don't want no overtime babysitting millennials that should be in rehab
ACPD is punitive when it comes to motor vehicles, minorities of any age, adolescents of any racial or ethnic group, non-trendy people in shopping malls and upscale neighborhoods.
Why don't they start planning for weather events that WILL occur and will cause major loss-of-habitation damage?
I stay away from both the Pike and Clarendon.
Why should they care when they are counting down the months until they can get hired by another law enforcement agency?
