APS Reported Close to Naming New Elementary School on TJ Site?

Hey Yupette,

I tuned to last night's Planning Commission meeting via AVN and saw the plans for the County's latest Space Age Elementary School. To be crammed onto the TJ Middle School campus. At least 292 total parking spaces planned on-site, for now, and likely many more in the future. Energy efficiency? What's that? As for the school's design, it's back to the future - 1962. Since the architects obviously lifted the school's design from an early-60's futuristic cartoon series the only possiblity for a name is "The George and Jane Jetson Elementary School".

Thanks for your blog.

P.K.

The Jetsons live in 23rd Century climate-controlled bubbles powered by some advanced technology. Not so for the 1960's retro modernist Jetsons Elementary School that will be consume vast amounts of Dominion coal-generated power for climate control.

Seen the artist renderings of the Jetsons School? Go to the Planning Commission Web page. School will be an energy pig.

City of Alexandria is refurbishing an office building and will have a new elementary school for $35 million. Cost of Jetsons Elementary will be anywhere from $60 million to $100 million.

How long will the lines of vehicles dropping off students at the school be on rainy days?

Can the Schools and County please knock off the "Car Free Diet" charade?

Check out the drawings on the Planning Commission's Web pages. How can this building be energy efficient with so much glass everywhere?

How far will traffic be backed up at the school on days when it rains? Half a mile?

Despite everything APS may say, the school will be an energy pig. And I will believe APS will install solar panels when I see them being installed.

Solar on-site is another charade from APS, which instead will buy power generated somewhere like West Virginia from Virginia Power.
