County Board Democrats to 'Repurpose' Residential Streets Into Parks to Benefit VIP Dems and Developers

Hi, Yupette,

Thanks for your blog. The Georgetown-Rosslyn Gondola wasn't the only "done deal" presented to the Transportation Commission on September 1st. The Commission also heard a presentation by County Staff about amemdments to the County's Master Transportation Plan (Streets Element) to go to the County Board on September 24th.

The amendmants would create two new types of streets - "Pedestrian and Bicycle Priority or Shared Streets" where motor vehicle operation would be severely restricted, and "Pedestrian Streets" where motor vehicles would be banned.

The proposed new street types would help alleviate the demand for open space by repurposing streets into parks, would allow developers to forego dedicating land for open space on redeveloped sites, using neighborhood streets instead, and would allow VIP Democrats like those who live in Jay Fisette's and Libby Garvey's neighborhoods to opt out of through traffic. There was no discussion about what would occur across an entire neighborhood, like Ashton Heights, if traffic were blocked, where residents would park their cars, and who would use the new parks. Arlington Democrats have been discussing whose upscale neighborhoods will get the "Pedestrian Streets" for several months.

So check the County Board's Consent Agenda for Septmber 24th in 10 days, when it's posted on-line.

Developers get to build on the entire site. Multi use open space is a blocked-off street in your residential neighborhood 3 blocks away.

I was wondering when the Urban Village Idiots would get around to doing that.

Jay already opted his A$hton Height$ Estate, aka County Board Meeting Site J, out of sidewalks and curbs.

Isn't that a photo of Libby's street in Fairlington?

Talk about 'bonus density' and 'transfer of development rights'. This takes both to another level.

Another behind-closed-doors done deal at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.? But Libby stated tonight at the CivFed meeting that there are no behind-closed-doors done deals occurring at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.

Libby Garvey's neighbors needn't worry. She won't allow S 35th Street to be turned into a 'linear park'. And Libby's neighbors can drive to shop in vibrant Dumb Growth, aka made-over, renovated, and upgraded Alexandria along Quaker Lane and King Street, all they want to. 'Cause Smart Growth is just another one of many charades Lyin' Libby inflicts on older Arlington neighborhoods to benefit her corporate crony benefactors.

Libby Garvey. What a piece of squirrel $#!+. Been running her mouth for 20 years and all that happens is the County is becoming more expensive and less livable.

Another Limo Libby Done Deal: Industrial buildings along South Four Mile Run will be demolished to construct a vibrant Performing Arts Corridor.

Mixed Use Redevelopment, as implemeted by Arlington County, is already a huge corporate welfare give-away to the County Board's pet developers.

Now Lyin' Libby is saying that the General Assembly has outlawed proffers from developers. Completely untrue. Check out Code of Virginia 15.2-2303-4

County should have demanded megadollars in proffers from the Mazda site developers for new schools, new fire and EMS stations, new parks, and street improvements. Instead, the County Board gave the developer megadollars in bonus density for a few more cribs for Millennials.

Planning Commission meets tonight at 6:30 PM to discuss changes to the Form Based Code for the Pike to provide the Pike's would be developers with even more corporate welfare.

First streets to be 'repurposed' will be residential streets parallel to the Pike.

Exactly what you would expect from an entrenched one-party regime.

Libby and her fellow Democrat corporate cronies are a bunch of squirrels and the County is one big bird feeder.

It gets worse. Guess who increasingly use the expensive 'community amenities' in border neighborhoods like Libby's? Fairfax County and Alexandria residents, 'cause Arlington spends huge amounts on parks and recreation upgrades and Alexandria and Fairfax County don't.

It gets even worse. Libby recently promised Bike Arlington exclusive use of residential neighborhood streets for bicycle-related events, e.g., bicycle races.

Just whst we need, huge neighborhood fights over a street being closed or not. Remember speed tables aka speed bumps as a favorite traffic control option for neighborhoods by County transportation staff who don't live in the County?

This is on the County Board Consent Agenda for the September 24th meeting.

God I am glad I moved out of Fairlington.

Sure enough. County Board passed this on October 15th and ArlNow blog is full of proposals for closing this street and that road.
