Libby Garvey Votes for Massive Urbanization, Lives in an Urban Village
Hey Yupette,
Thanks for your blog. Yes, County Government and especially the County Board are core members of the New Urbanist Cult. They and their corporate cronies from the out-of-state real estate trusts are out to completely urbanize Arlington. "Car Free Diet", "Urban Village", and "Walkable Communities" are huge charades. Whatever Lyin' Libby may say she votes for massive urbanization, neighborhood after neighborhood, no matter how unhappy that makes residents of suburban neighborhoods in Bluemont, Lee Highway, Ballston, Clarendon.
So where does Lyin' Libby live? In an Urban Village that includes once-affordable Fairlington and the restaurants, retail, and essential services providers across Quaker Lane in the City of Alexandria. No resemblance to vibrant Shirlington Village, by the way.
Not only is Libby's neighborhood a walkable urban village but more real community amenities, like an immediate care facility and speciality supermarket, are moving to Libby's neighborhood. Unlike Arlington, older buildings in Libby's neighborhood are being substantially renovated. So are the shopping plazas.
What I see in Libby's neighborhood is what's typical of Arlington's other New Urbanist VIPs...they don't want Smart Growth anywhere near where they live, while 80% of Arlington neighborhoods are on their Smart Growth redevelopment opportunity to-do list.
I'm voting to put Audrey Clement on the County Board before Arlington is overwhelmed. Only a matter of a few years. I live in Claremont and no one in Arlington Government cares about massive new urbanization near us on Route 7.
Linda

Libby can also walk across King Street to Bradlee Plaza, where there's a new Safeway and new Fresh Market.
Ask yourselves why every Arlington neighborhood is a "redevelopment opportunity" for out-of-state real estate trusts. The only old building that's received a major makeover that I'm aware has been the 7-11 that became The Italian Store in Westover.
Arlington New Urbanists are following up on their predecessors glut of office space with their own glut of retail, residential, and and restaurant space.
Lyin' Libby is preparing for her annual vacation in France, staying in villages that haven't changed in centuries.
How about Jay Fisette? Has voted to impose "smart growth" on everyone else for almost 20 years while opting his exclusive neighborhood in Ashton Heights totally out.
It's the Church of the New Urbanist Covenant, and they act like television evangelists.
Lindsay Family is largely responsible for preserving that neighborhood.
Alexandria Mayor Alison Silberberg lives across Quaker Lane in Park Fairfax, about 1/2 mile from Libby.
Libby Garvey is another one who has an on-stage lifestyle and an off-stage lifestyle.
Lyin' Libby? LOL. When Libby ran for State Senate a few years ago she tried to make Alexandria voters believe she lives in Alexandria.
Claremont? Libby lives 1 1/2 miles East of Claremont and could give a rat's ass that Claremont residents are going to get slammed by mixed use redevelopment on King Street.
Time for Libby Garvey and Jay Fisette to move to a vibrant mixed-use Smart Growth condo building like the one they voted to approve to be constructed at 2000 Clarendon Blvd. which pissed off the entire neighborhood at the last CB meeting.
Second the motion. Libby and Jay too can be kept awake by the noise of vibrant pub crawls in vibrant Clarendon.
Lyin' Libby just voted with Gourmet Jay to approve mixed use residential-retail-restaurant buildings with 581 apartment and condo units with garage parking for 846 vehicles a couple blocks from Metro stations. Car free diet? What car free diet?
Click to enlarge the above photo, no bars and food trucks across the street from Libby's home.
Public Service Announcement: Don't ride the seriously-cracked streets in Libby's neighborhood on your bicycle, ride the vibrant Trolley Pub in Clarendon instead, much safer.
Ride the vibrant Rosslyn-Georgetown Gondola instead in 2018, another apparent done-deal at 2100 Clarendon Blvd.
Ask Libby: What happened to bus rapid transit for Columbia Pike?
A new immediate care facility recently opened in Bradlee Plaza in Alexandria, across King Street from Libby's neighborhood. The garden center and nursery at the corner of King and Quaker Lane was recently renovated.
Appears that all the vehicle repair, heating and ac, and so on along Four Mile Run Drive in Arlington will be bulldozed into mixed use upscale apartments, bars, and restaurants.
What Libby and the rest want for us in the future -- we will be driving 40 miles to buy new vehicles and to have them serviced.
Next big behind-closed-doors deal at 2100 will be the $250 million convention center in Potomac Yards.
Lyin' Libby? Where's the BRT on the Pike we were promised?
"Shirlington Village". What an oxymoron.
Lyin' Libby? County Board just approved the neighborhood conservation plan for the neighborhood around the Giant shopping plaza on South Glebe Road. County "Planners" are talking with developers about bulldozing the shopping plaza for another huge supermarket-apartment-office-restaurant-retail complex with 900 parking spaces on site.
Bradlee Plaza is getting a new Michaels and the ABC store is receiving a complete makeover.
Where's the BRT Libby wanted for the Pike?
VDOT is improving the crosswalks from Libby's neighborhood across King Street to Bradlee Plaza.
Better Libby than Bathhouse Jay having control of the board.
Live in Shirlington and need a new cordless phone battery? Try Batteries and Bulbs or Radio Shack in Libby's livable neighborhood.
Jay' a total HedoCrat. Of course HIS retirement home in Florida is loxcated in a place nothing like the mixed use mess he inflicts on suburban neighborhood after suburban neighborhood here.
