UPDATE: Arlington County Planning Commissioner Erik Gutshall Absent from Important PC Meetings

Hello,

Others have noted on this blog that the Vice-Chair of the Arlington Planning Commission, Erik Gutshall, has been absent this entire week while the Planning Commission considered important sector plan changes, site plan changes, transportation changes, neighborhood conservation changes, and zoning changes. Mr.Gutshall's absence from the Planning Commission's deliberations regarding the Rosenthal Mazda site mixed-use redevelopment at Wilson and Glebe was especially troubling.

Vice-Chair Gutshall was also absent from the June 13th Planning Commission meeting when neighbors of the proposed 5.8 FAR (floor area ratio) building at 2000 Clarendon Boulevard voiced their opposition to the site plan.

Consequently, Arlington Yupette endorses Mr. Gutshall's opponent, County Board Chair Libby Garvey, for County Board in the June 14th Democratic Primary.

Erik didn't want to vote for a site plan that awards the developer bonus density of 4,200 square feet per 'affordable' apartment for including apartments that would be 'affordable' for tenants earning $64,000 / year.

No proffers demanded of developer BF Saul for residential buildings that will add at least 38 students to APS, either for capital cost of new classrooms or APS's operating costs.

This site plan is nothing more than corporate welfare for BF Saul.

Erik wants to build 'millennial middle' infill condos on streets with low to moderate traffic and no parking problems, to benefit the infill Smart Growth developers who pull his strings.

Of course Erik's neighborhood Lyon Park gets tear down McMansions, not in-fill condos.

PC meetings included transportation and planning discussion by County Staff. Take a look at the video of Thursday night's meeting.

My suburban neighborhood was designed to be a suburban neighborhood, not a playground for Millennials.

Erik's millennial buds are bicycle racing in my neighborhood and not even slowing down for stop signs. What next? 10K bike races every weekend?

Planning Commission approves major in-fill site plans with no proffers from developers to purchase open space for outdoor sports and recreation activities. New Urbanism has become a cult with the cult leaders growing rich at everyone else's expense.

I would like to know the names of the VIPs who pay Eric $500 to change their McMansion's HVAC filters.

Can Jay Fisette and everyone else who are spending so much time and attention on Gay Pride Day please tell me when my street will be repaved?

How much did today's bicycle races cost the taxpayers in Police, Fire-EMS, and Parks and Rec overtime? More special treatment for special interests traded for votes.

Anonymous said...

So of course your street's repaving keeps being deferred.

Street repaving deferred? Check out the laundry list of gimmes on the County Board's consent agenda for June 18th.

FYI, there is NO community policing in Arlington because of all the overtime the police spend on special events and the bar scene. Neighborhood policing is reactive.

What happens when single family homes get demolished for millennial condos and the millennials party till they puke?

Fire Victor Hoskins and the smart growth skanks in economic development who are destroying the livability of Arlington with their urbanization for the sake of urbanization.

What is it about pols making extravagant promises like millennial middle housing even before they are elected?

Anonymous said...

Arlington police officers leave the Arlington Police Department for 2 main reasons, lack of affordable single family homes in Arlington and too much mandatory overtime being nannies for millennials and supervising special interezt events like bicycle races.

Anonymous said...

Agree. Fire Victor Hoskins. We don't need any more "urbanization for the sake of urbanization".

Next big taxpayer subsidized deal after the Longdridge Aquatic Center will be the Potomac Yards Convention Center.

Erik Gutshall wants Washington Blvd redeveloped, but not his own neighborhood, Lyon Park.

Erik didn't bother to attend last night's PC meeting to hear the concerns of the neighbors who live in the Odyssey next door to the site at 2000 Clarendon Blvd. about building an 108,000 sq ft building on an 18,000 sq ft lot.

Anonymous said...

Odyssey residents demanded the PC defer the site plan until the developer can redesign the building. Where was Erik?

Anonymous said...

There was also discussion about the 'affordablity' of the developer's affordable housing on-site, for which the developer would receive a huge amount of bonus density for a one-time contribution for 'affordable' condo units. Where was Erik?

FYI, Independent for County Board Audrey Clement attended and spoke at two Planning Commission meetings last week.

Erik has three children and soccer practice comes first.

So-called "Bonus Density" for LEED Silver certification and Affordable Housing is basically a corporate welfare giveaway to developers.

Appears Libby won with about 55% of the vote. Goodbye Zimmycrats for another 9 months.

Anonymous said...

Anyone know if it will be Libby vs. Audrey on the ballot?

Anonymous said...

It's Audrey vs. Libby.

Voters said no to the Machine Democrats. Time for the local media to stop supporting the Democratic Machine. Scott Brodbeck, Scott McCaffrey and Patricia Sullivan aren't Journalists they're boosters for the status quo.

Erik Gutshall should keep on doing what he does best -- providing upscale housekeeping services to VIP developers who are busy preparing mega-infill site plans for submission to the Planning Commission.
