Friday, May 20th - Arlington Work at Home Day
Hey, Yupette,
Well, I'm sorry but I'm not going to drive to work or bike to work on Arlington's Bike to Work Day, May 20th.
Too many of Arlington's streets and roads need repaving and are too dangerous to ride bicycles on.
Too many of Arlington's bicyclists engage in various forms of reckless behavior.
Nothing said about bicycle safety by County Government, Arlington Public Schools, Arlington Police, CivFed, Local Media.
I'm staying home and doing Spring Housecleaning while the weather is still cool. Keeping in touch with my colleagues at work via e-mail. You should too.
Susan

FYI, streets in all three CB candidates' neighborhoods are in seruus need of repaving.
Thanks for this. When are the people who sell bicycles and promote Bike to Work Day going to call for safer behavior by bicyclists?
Thanks. I'm taking today off and having the AC system checked before Summer arrives next week.
County pays for street repaving and Washington Gas and Dominion tear the streets up for utility construction a year or two later later. Me ride a bicycle? No thanks.
I almost hit a biketard who ran a red light and crossed 8 lanes of traffic at Glebe Road and Fairfax Drive yesterday afternoon.
How many people who promote Bike to Work Day even own bicycles?
When will County Government promote "Work from Home Day"?
It gets worse. County Board just approved a redevelopment of the Berkeley Apartments across Glebe Road from a big shopping plaza and there will be 241 parking spaces for 257 apartments, 155 of them supposedly "affordable". How will the future residents travel to the shopping plaza to shop? On foot, by bicycle, and of course they will drive. Car free diet? Another $mart Growth $harade.
Work at Home? What a novel idea. I must tell County Planning Staff the next time a mega-infill redevelopment is planned for my vibrant Ballston neighborhood to include 450 residential units and 600 parking spaces.
If I'm hurt in Arlington it will be by a biketard riding on the sidewalk, not by someone shooting a firearm.
Fact: if you bike in Arlington, you will hit a pothole and die or cause a car crash.
Or by a biketard running a stop sign or traffic light.
It gets even worse. County Board declared last Saturday that it's OK with them if Stratford parents drive their kids to and from school. Time is overdue to send "Car Free Diet" to the slogan junkyard.
Fact: Libby Garvey hit a pothole and broke a collarbone. She was wearing a helmet. Audrey Clement's bicycle slipped on ice and she suffered a concussion. She was wearing a helmet. Don't know about Erik Gutshall.
I gotta believe the reason that no one is stressing bicycle safety is because, like bikers, bicyclists are a reliable source of donor organs.
You would think they would ride mountain bikes, but they ride racing bikes.
Probably Erik is riding a bicycle along with the other pols today.
County Board just approved installation of school Bikeshare stations at McKinley, Reed, and W-L. No mention of safety by CB members.
Wait until "Complete Streets" takes off over the next 5 years.
Have to wonder how many injuries are suffered by bicyclists and are caused by bicyclists.
You forgot to mention biketards riding at high speed on shared-use trails.
Two biketards were racing around my neighborhood on racing bikes late this morning. Didn't slow down for stop signs. Happens about 3 times every week.
They are all macho and usually get themselves to the hospital ER without calling 911.
Cops are too busy responding to 'suspicious black male' in some yupscale neighborhood to give a $#!+ about what the biketards are up to.
County employees who put out PR about bicycle events don't live in Arlington and don't own bicycles. Same people who put out the car-free diet PR.
Too much broken pavement. I'll ride my bicycle again when it's repaved.
Too many Lance Armstrong wannabees riding at high speed on trails. Plus too many drug thugs from DC.
I won't walk on a multi-use trail myself, let alone take my kids along.
Who is promoting working at home? Having groceries delivered to your home? Ride sharing? Neighborhood shuttle vans to shopping plazas?
Next year: Hike to Work Day
Enjoy the peace an quiet of a cool late Spring rainy day. Summer and Rolling Thunder arrive next week.
I blame Urban Village Idiots like Jay Fi$ette. He has a laundry-list of pet special interests that must be appeased: Dominion, Washington Gas, LGBT cult, Smart Growth cult, bicycle cult, dog cult, aquatics cult.
Why is this blog constantly attacked for being rational and sane?
Only a bunch of complete A$$holes would want a "Car Free Diet" for Arlington to consist of everyone riding bicycles 24/7/365.
Problem with the AY blog is, thanks to the Yuptards who control everything, AY is about 5 years ahead of what's going to be happening - like total gridlock when pedestrians, motor vehicles, and bicycles try to share the same space at the same time during rush hours.
TG for Spring that lasts almost 3 months and Fall that lasts for almost 3 months. Summer and Winter here totally suck.
Rolling Thunder should move it to Virginia Beach.
Great Spring Housecleaning...Wrapping up tomorrow before Summer arrives.
Same here. Cleaned out the attic before it became too hot in the attic.
When is DES going to make Washibngton Gas, Verizon, and Dominion either adequately repave the streets they have excavated or pay a subcontractor to do so?
