County's Streets, Roads, Trails Too Unsafe for Bicycle and Running Events

Hi, Yupette,

I usually ride my bicycle to work on "Bike to Work Day", but not this year. Arlington's streets, roads, and trails are too badly in need of repaving. The County should reschedule "Bike to Work Day" for sometime in Fall when whatever the repaving is scheduled for this Summer has been accomplished and the potholes and major cracks have been fixed.

It's quite disconcerting that County Government keeps talking about $20 million gondolas and a $40 million swimming pool when the County's streets are such a deplorable condition. My friends in the mobility disabled community are very unhappy about broken sidewalks and crosswalks.

I notice that a number of streets in Lyon Park and Fairlington need repaving and I wonder what community leaders like Erik Gutshall and Libby Garvey are doing about that.

Thanks for your blog.

Nancy Smith

You forgot to mention the Smart Growth shills who run the Civic Federation and Civic Associations.

The current County Board Chair hit a pothole while riding her bicycle and was incapacitated for how many weeks?

Erik Gutshall and the other Smart Growth Yellow Dog Democrats are too busy hyping hysteria about a gun store that's isn't even in Lyon Park.

I am also passing on riding my bicycle to work. Also passing on taking Metrorail to work. The so-called "Car Free Diet" is a complete charade, part of the County's Smart Growth propaganda.

How many bicycle and pedestrian accidents so far this year caused by broken pavement?

I discussed this with several other parents in my neighborhood and we're going to boycott "Bike to Work Day" this year.

I hope Parks and Rec isn't idiotic enough to sponsor bicycle racing this year.

Where are the biketard bozo bullies when it comes to their own safety?

Ask Alan "Macho Man" Munchkin.

Yes. I will join the "Bike to Work Day" boycott. I stopped riding Metro several weeks ago after the last track fire.

Trailer Court Trash have more respect for the public infrastructure where they live than Arlington's upscale New Urbanists.

As a matter of fact I ARE a Arlington Milenial and a graduate of Kaplan U who majored in National Security and now I work for the CIA and am a Iraq Specialist. If you don't like the way I ride my bicycle stay off the sidewalk.

This is what we get from 1-party government for more than 30 years.

Then there are the Bikester Bozos who post to ArlNow from DES Transportation.

Arlington Bikster Commission held its monthly meeting tonight and the Bikesters don't give a rats a$$ about street pavement.

Anonymous said...

They only want more Smart Growth for more bicycles in more new mixed use redevelopment so everyone will have to ride bicycles when Arlington streets are gridlocked by motor vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.

ARlNow is of, by, and for New Urbanist a$$holes.

Macho Biketards: Street repaving? Who needs the streets to be repaved? Not us.

Anonymous said...

Do you think the Yuptards who control the Post, Inside Nova and ArlNow are going to say anything about Arlington's broken streets, roads, sidewalks, trails? No Way!

Scott McCaffrey, Scott Brodbeck, and Patricia Sullivan each earn more than $100,000 to support and maintain the Smart Growth status quo in Arlington.

I are a gradate of the University of Phoenix and also are a Arlington Milenial and work for the CIA as a Afganistan Specialist. We have worked it out that we can now identify an a group of rag heads in a wedding party from a group of Taliban rag heads. This took us more than 5 years of hard work. We spent a lot of time at A-Town in the evenings and on weekends working it out. I agree. If you don't like the way I ride my bike on the sidewalk on the way home from A-Town after we have been working on Top Secret National Secrity until 2 AM...keep off th4 damn sidewalk.

Yes, everyone should boycott "Bike to Work Day" until the County fixes Arlington's streets, roads, and trails.

Fuck Metro. Same vintage as the 1976 Ford Pinto.

CIA Guy..The Arlington Police Department completely supports the CIA in its fight against Global Terrorism. If you identify a 'suspicious person' impeding your high speed bicycle travel on any Arlington sidewalk, please call 9-1-1 immediately.

Parents:

Write a letter to the County Manager to complain about the deplorable condition of Arlington's streets roads, and sidewalks.

When you or your kid kid gets hurt from wiping out on broken pavement, hire a lawyer and sue the County.

Chief Farr schleps to Arlington from his Loudoun County home near the West Virginia border, so why should he care?

Last night at the Arlington Civic Federation County Board candidate Audrey Clement grilled the General Assembly delegation about the state of local state roads and highways.

Postpone Bike to Work Day until late September.

The Biketards want everyone to ride bicycles, including over potholed streets in Winter. Dump the Democrats who keep squandering tax dollars away on special interests.

Bike Arlington is just another cult that the County Board can't say no to.

Anonymous said...

If the streets are too broken the bikesters will just ride on the sidewalk.

Anonymous said...

Kids on bikes are for the suburbs, not the urban mess Arlington's become.

Anonymous said...

Last night at the Civfed everyone in Arlington's General Assembly delegation except for Patrick Hope was annoyed that Audrey grilled them about the deteriorated state of the local State roads.

Too much time wasted on Yellow Dog Plutocrat Smart Growth closed door done-deals.

Audrey Clement went after the McAuliffe-County Board I-66 deal at the NVTC Meeting tonight.

I'm not riding a bicycle to work nor riding Metro to work unless and until there are major local infrastructure upgrades. There always seems to be plenty of money available to spend on Iraq and Afghanistan.

Anonymous said...

So, Metrorail is such a mess that it's going to take a year to fix all the problems? Looks like we've been lied to by the pols for decades.

Anonymous said...

Lied to about Metrorail safety by Christian Dorsey, and before him by Mary Hynes and Chris Zimmerman.

Don't you love it when First Yuppie Obama flies to Flint Michigan to commiserate with the residents about their poisoned drinking water and then returns to DC to sign a bill authorizing brand new water treatment infrastructure for Iraq?

Don't you love it when Black Lives Matter attacks the "white racist police" for violence perpetrated against African Americans over the past 7 years when the President and Attorney General just happened to be African Americans.

I am not riding a bicycle nor riding Metro for the next year, until May 2017. Signed up to telecommute to work in Pentagon City 3 days a week.

Of COURSE Chris Zimmerman and his fellow Smart Growth America cronies are going to tell everyone to ride the vibrant Smart Growth Metro up and down the vibrant Smart Growth B-R corridor.

Front page of Wash Post yesterday:

"The four page [FTA] directive lambastes Metro employees for placing a higher priority on keeping the trains running than on safety".

Anonymous said...

Where was the Post ten years ago? Certainly not interviewing Metrorail employees about safety issues.

The media are all highly paid shills for Smart Growth, as are the pols, developers, and planners.

Scott Brodbeck, Scott McCaffrey, and Patrica Sullivan are only capable of promoting the status quo. Can't write anything that might jeopardize their 6-figure incomes.

"Investigative Journalism" has been an oxymoron in DC for at least 2 decades.

Anonymous said...

Metrorail "safety" has been an ongoing objective of Smart Growth's public disinformation campaign because for more than two decades Smart Growth adherents have packed as many people and vehicles as possible into Metro corridors. Consequently, Smart Growth has had to misinform the public to ensure more mixed use redevelopment will occur in Metro corridors.

Time for a Federal Grand Jury to put the politricksters under oath and do some in-depth questioning about Metrorail.
