County Board - County Manager Held No Winter Emergency Planning Meetings During the Fall of 2015
Hello,
One of the contributors to AY was able to obtain copies of the County Board's and County Manager's appointment calendars for the months of October, November, and December. Although the County Board (with the exception of John Vihstadt, who works full-time) and County Manager held plenty of personal, political, and social meetings, as well as many deal-making meetings with pet developers, the County Board and County Manager had no appointments related to winter emergency preparedness whatsoever. So whatever winter emergency plans were made for the County were made in the week leading up to the first (and most likely not the last) major snowstorm of 2016.
It's decidedly NOT true that the "the County Board doesn't listen". The County Board DOES listen, repeatedly, but only to the same 100 Arlington residents and to the same 100 non-residents. Rather than focusing on the basics, like snow removal, the County Board, County Manager, and Economic Development Director are making Arlington into a number of neighborhood-by-neighborhood 'redevelopment opportunities' without bothering to tell the neighborhoods. Whatever deals are made with developers are passed down to the Democratic Party-controlled advisory commissions and Democratic Party 'facilitators' who control almost all Arlington's civic associations.
Too bad the local media are also facilitators for the status quo. We deserve to be informed about important decisions that directly affect us and the livability of our County, not continually deluged with second-hand feel-good propaganda and warmed over press releases.

Cindy, about what percent of the time does the County Board perform work that actually benefits all Arlington residents?
Unclear about John Vihstadt. As for Mary Hynes, Walter Tejada, Libby Garvey, and Jay Fisette, their service on the County Board last Fall appeared to amount to "on the job retirement".
FYI, Jay Fisette owns a retirement home near Stuart Florida and will most likely retire at the end of his current term of office.
About 10% of the time...if that.
Cindy, how about mining some nuggets of information from the County Board's appointment calendars so long-suffering taxpayers will know what promises are being made for us without our knowledge or consent?
People...don't say we haven't been warned about County Government.
Does anyone think 'upscale educational services facilitator' Cristol and 'non-profit low income services facilitator' Dorsey will be any different?
County Government is completely run on the basis of "pay to play". Any benefits that may accrue to all Arlingtonians are co-incidental.
Where is Walter's Rancho DeLuxe?
"Alexandria to establish committee on ethics"
Walter's Rancho Deluxe is outside Ciudad Zika, El Salvador.
'With McDonnell case, court could redefine corruption'
Yes, U.S. Supreme Court will soon rule on "pay to play" in Virginia.
Never mind Hynes and Tejada. A.Y. shoud do a feature about Cristol's and Dorsey's bogus official biographies.
Especially Cristol's
Why does a County Board Member need constant protection from the Arlington Police?
Oops, meant BY the Arlington Police?
Well, it's like this, someone at the Department of Jusatice has to make the ethical determination about who does or does not get tortured by the CIA to provide information to the CIA about 'terrorist' activities.
In the context of Mayor Silberberg's efforts to reform Alexandria, it's obvious that Arlington is going in the opposite direction, to out-and-out criminal graft and corruption.
Completely agree.
Prediction - Next big snow storm will hit DC about February 20th.
People...Don't say we haven't been warned about County Government.
Arlington is a big profit center to the out-of-state REITs. They're all so busy making deals to totally urbanize the County that little things like snow removal in winter aren't worth their time.
What Fire, EMS, ECC, County Manager, etc., were doing instead: Attempting to quell the neighborhood revolt over Fire Station 8.
Why are they paying Victor Hoskins big $$$ when all he does is make phone calls to his cronies around the Beltway from his electronic rolodex?
Yes. A hundred hours or more were spent in high-level discussions over what to do about the neighborhood nuisances who live near Fire Station 8.
Who is the ACDC Coordinator for the CivFed this year?
Anybody else noticed that several senior staff have been transferred to Parks and Rec?
ACDC Ward Heeler for the CivFed was Kim K last year.
There's a battle raging over control of the Civfed. Delegates are increasingly unhappy with Democratic Smart Growth ideologues imposing 75,000 more residents and 75,000 more vehicles on the County by 2040.
Smart Growth Controllers? How about the YDs who are running for County Board and School Board this year? Right out of Portlandia.
Portlandia on the Potomac? Stay tuned to AIM.
Translation of 'Complete Streets' ---- Arlington's residential streets as exercise areas for 75,000 more residents by 2040.
Thanks for this blog. I am starting to really dislike anyone connected with local government, which is dedicated to complete urbanization of the County.
Don't you just love how County employees commute to 2100 Clarendon Blvd., one per SUV, and get paid to put us on a "car free diet" including riding bicycles in Winter.
Where have I seen Arlington's Regime before? They ran the counrty club in the film "Caddy Shack".
Where are the Arlington Young Democrats who will be running Arlington in 25 years going to put the snow from a massive winter storm that buries totally urbanized Arlington?
Yes, the Snart Growth crazies at 2100 Clarendon Blvd. were telling residents who were snowed in to ride bicycles.
Lee Highway Planning Charade is today - Saturday - at Yorktown HS.
