VDOT Proposes I-395 Widening for HOT Lanes Through Arlington to DC

Hello,

Here are JPEGs of the brochure some residents in the I-395 Corridor received early this week from VDOT. County Board is discussing whether or not to facilitate this project. AY opposes any plan or project that will bring more traffic into Arlington. Click on JPEGs to enlarge.

What would the 'contribution' from TransUrban consist of - more BikeShare stations?

This will only cause more social and economic gentrification - more people who will commute in/out of more expensive urbanized neighborhoods where they work but can't afford to live, and more environmental destruction 50 miles from DC to provide more middle class affordable housing.

Transit contribution? More likely TransUrban will fund the construct of speed tables in all residential neighborhoods along Shirley Highway.

This was featured on Channel 4 News tonight, including an interview with Mary Hynes.

What does the County Board expect to happen when it approves expensive mixed-use residential and commercial infrastructure that requires an increasing number of low-wage workers (who are not eligible for 'affordable housing') to operate and maintain, and when hundreds of parking spaces are included in every mixed-use site plan?

Good riddance to Walter Tejada and Mary Hynes. Arlington lost 13,000 affordable apartments to New Urbanist gentrification over the 12 years Walter's been on the County Board and MetroRail has become a dangerous and dirty disgrace that commuters are afraid to use since Mary joined the WMATA Board. ALL the serious accidents MetroRail has suffered were because of lack of basic cleaning. e.g., with detergent and water. Who's to blame for more single occupant vehicles driving to Arlington and DC? The Republicans, of course.

Anyone who wants low-paid service workers to spend $85 per week in tolls to drive to and from PW County to their service jobs in places like Shirlington and Clarendon, or to provide housecleaning service to thousands of Arlington's Yuptards is a worthless Urban Village Idiot.

Where are the so-called "Progressives" in the General Assembly calling for an increase in Virginia's minimum wage to cover the cost of the I-66 and I-395 tolls?

I blame Mary Hynes and other WMATA Board members for spending huge amounts of WMATA's operating budget catering to the every whim and want of the mobility disabled lobby at the expense of perfroming essential basic maintenance.

Whatever the County Board may state on its Web page extension of HOT Lanes into Arlington will bring more traffic onto Arlington's streets by reducing traffic congestion on non-toll lanes.

Income of the foreign corporation that profits from HOT lanes will increase. More vehicles will drive farther South. More New Urbanist suburbanization of rural areas to house middle class workers who are gentrified out of Arlington. More air pollution from more traffic. Wasn't there just a Conference on Global Warming in Paris?

Population of the USA will reach 400 million in less than 30 years. There is ongoing massive suburbanization of rural areas where crops are grown for new New Urbanist gentrification housing. No one in a position of authority and responsibility cares.

Cindy, County Board members are referring to any group or blog that opposes 'Smart Growth' as 'Vultures'.

I have to believe almost all of the top 1% (about 3.25 million) who control everyone and everything are taking Prozac, Zoloft, or something similar, 'cause they don't care about what the future will be like.

THEY'RE the f------ Vultures. One Arlington neighborhood after another destroyed. F------ developers always looking for another neighborhood.

Ho$kins is a piece of Yuptard Eliti$t $hit. We can dump him by dumping Libby Garvey next year and Jay Fi$stte in 2017.

'Vultures'? Hear at the County Board meeting on Saturday what they're doing to the last remaining historic homes in Ballston - bulldozing them for more ugly townhouses?

So, what will be left? A few historic sites, a few neighborhoods that will be preserved. Rest of the County will be urbanized.

So the TJ neighbors were upset Tuesday night? Well, get used to it. One new school every three years to be constructed on some neighborhood park for the next 25 years.

Vultures? How about County Staff who 'facilitate' mixed-use redevelopment who never move into the County no matter how many promotions they receive?

VDOT is run by VMI graduates who drink heavily. And it shows!
