County Board Approves $522,000 Tot Lot, Cost $108,000 to Design
Hey Yupette,
Wonder why the September 24th Recessed County Board Meeting video is 'experiencing technical difficulties' and is not yet available for viewing on-line. Maybe because the recessed meeting is full of embarrassing moments, like the County Board taken to task for approving a new tot lot for Butler Holmes Park in the Lyon Park neighborhood which will cost $522,400 to build including $108,423 to design. Parks and Rec included a couple picnic tables and grills near the tot lot. So let's see, if you divide $108,423 by 100 that's $1,084.23 per hour to design the tot lot over 2 1/2 weeks. I thought we put an end to $1 million bus shelters and $1.5 million doggie spas last year. Guess not.

Audrey Clement and Mike McMenamin for County Board.
Yupette, the tot lot costs don't cover landscaping, regrading, and sodding, stay tuned to the consent agenda for future costs.
ACTA + Fiscal Affairs Advisory Commission + CivFed R and E Committee = Worthless + Useless + Hopeless
Assuming Parks and Rec was as inefficient as usual it took them 400 hours to redesign the tot lot at $271.05 per hour.
Appears the Parks and Rec paid an architect $108,000, or a year's salary, to design the tot lot.
Wash Post + Arl Now + Sun Gazette = Hopeless + Useless + Worthless
I heard that Arlington County is hiring an Independent Internal Auditor. Anyone know when?
LOL - BTW, County is opening a Taj Mahal Homeless Shelter on October 1st.
Does that mean Arlington's Professional Panhandlers will seek employment assistance from the Arlington Street People's Network that runs the Shelter? Probably not. ASPAN's thrived over the past 30 years by keeping street people on the street.
Independent Internal Auditor auditing Parks and Rec? In which decade of the 21st Century?
Dump the Chamber of Commerce "Smart Growth" RepubliCrats who are driving the Middle Class out of Arlington to seek affordable housing in rural areas.
FYI - Caroline County is the next Spotsylvania dumb growth.
Where is Arlington's Independent Internal Auditor, who everyone made such a big deal about a year ago?
In about 30 other Virginia Counties a report of such egregious waste and mismanagement would have triggered local grand jury investigations.
Anyone know whether, at this point, Arlington will even hire an Independent Internal Auditor?
Don't bother calling Arlington Commonwealth's Attorney Theo Stamos about this...she pre-approved it.
NO WAY I will vote for Libby Garvey again...she's buying special interests' votes with tax dollars for their pet projects.
I am waiting until October 1st to see what happens to the panhandlers. After October 1st there will be no excuse to give them $$$. I am printing the address of Arlington's new Taj Mahal homeless care facility and handing it to them in advance of the homeless care facility's opening --- 2020 North 14th Street
Katie Cristol is a 'progressive panderer' for any and all upscale non-profits. Low down on Christian Dorsey is he's already Arlington's most notorious 'poverty pimp.'
Both have already made extravagant promises to buy votes with hundreds of millions of future tax dollars.
Mike McMenamin is another Republican who would spend his time in the County Board Offices making deals with developers and special interests.
What ever happened to the County Board hiring an Independent Internal Auditor?
I am printing this posting and mailing it to:
Responsible Adult
Arlington County Board
2100 Clarendon Blvd., Suite 300
Arlington VA 22201
Our only choice for an end to tax-borrow-spend to completely urbanize the County at a cost of billions in new public infrastructure is Audrey Clement.
Excellent idea. I am printing a flyer with the address of the new Homeless Facility and a map with the location highlighted to hand to panhandlers at traffic lights.
Ask John Vihstadt what happened to the Independent Internal Auditor who was supposed to be on-board months ago.
So what do we get after the new homeless facility opens? Most likely - more panhandlers (who may or may not be homeless) and more homeless. Another lose-lose.
The landscaping and re-sodding will be included in another contract. Stayed tuned to an upcoming consent agenda.
I heard via the ACDC party-line that they are arguing about what to censor out of the September 24th recessed CB meeting video.
Embarrassing moments? Like the County Board Member who stated on September 24th during the regular hearing agenda item about the $750,000-tear down for open space: "If we don't allow Parks and Rec to tear down the home, some developer will come in and build a McMansion". Same County Board that voted in the previous Saturday for an 'Affordable Housing Plan'. Single family homes don't count.
Video of September 24th recessed CB meeting is working.
County Board approved tearing down the $750,000 home next to a tear down lot that is not being used for anything.
Open space hoarding by Parks and Rec? Where is that independent internal auditor?
Where was the CB when the wooded parcel at Washington Blvd. and George Mason was bulldozed for ugly brick homes? Oh, one of the ugly brick homes is for sale. Quick buy it and tear it down. Also the ugly brick home next to it.
County Board voted 5-0 to approve.
The people who run your county are crazy. If I see any of your County Board of Supervisors around here I will call the Sheriff and report crazy people on the loose in my neighborhood.
N.C., the Sheriff here runs a Taj Mahal Jail
Arlington Jail aka Detention Facility has to be nice because so many serve time there for 'nonconforming behavior', e.g., poor, black, and get caught in a "White" neighborhood, get caught in a mall by the police who make big money doing store security and testi-lie about non-trendy people being 'disorderly', and so on.
I would like to see the invoices for the tot lot. Also time sheets for County employees who worked on this project.
County Board allows bad boy bars to continue operating. So guess who gets to go to jail for disorderly conduct?
I am printing this and enclosing it with my personal property tax payment.
How much of our car tax is going to promote riding bicycles on days when it's 52 degrees and pouring rain?
Consent agenda for the next County Board meeting will be posted this coming weekend.
