Arlington Planners to Penny Gross - 'Don't Clarendon Our Exclusive Neighborhoods'

Hey, Yupette,

Your blog's commenters are 110% correct about Arlington County's 'Planning' being a huge charade run by New Urbanist Cult members who live in Fairfax County. But don't believe me, just drive 5 miles up Columbia Pike from the Arlington border and you will see the pleasant suburban lifestyle of the Super Nimbys who are inflicting Supersized Smart Growth on Arlington.

Mason District Supervisor Penny Gross was given a loud and clear message in the form of facing a challenger in a Democratic Primary this year, the first in many years - 'Don't you dare Clarendon our exclusive neighborhoods'.

So it's going to be years before Mason District catches up to the Pike in Arlington County. Arlington's Senior Planners and the Developers, Architects, Consultants, Lawyers, etc. who work with them want nothing to do with Smart Growth, apart from work and attending Cult functions.

When Arlington Planning Staff aren't posting to ArlNow trashing anyone who opposes mega infill as 'infidels'.

Yeah, Supervisor Gross got the message - keep Sleepy Hollow sleepy.

Then there's County transportation staff who drive to 2100 one-per-SUV to plan the next phase of the County's 'car free diet'.

Fire all County Planning, Housing, Transportation, PR, and other staff who spend their days inflicting their New Urbanist religion on us when they aren't on ArlNow trashing anyone who doesn't go along with the program.

It's the Church of the New Urbanism Covenant, Bishop Mary Hynes Presiding. They worship the third Saturday of every month.

"Supervisor Gross, we don't want a meals tax in Fairfax County either".

2100-2 you forgot to mention all the sub-Cults, the Bicycle Cult, the Doggie Cult, the Aquatics Cult, and so on.

Shame on you making fun of peoples religion that way.

It's not a religion, it's a belief system...abbreviated BS

Horses are being boarded on-campus by the children of County Staff who attend Congressional School, on Sleepy Hollow Road, 5 miles from Arlington.

"Supervisor Gross, we can't afford Taj Mahal piblic schools like the Lexus Liberals in Arlington."

Anonymous said...

So where do you think County Staff and APS Staff who live in Fairfax County came up with the idea to make every Arlington Public School a Country Day School?

Anonymous said...

In case you wondered, Senior County Planning Staff (CPHD, Transportation, Environment, Parks and Rec) earn $120,000 per year and up for making every neighborhood a smart growth redevelopment opportunity.

Gabriella said...

Well, I'm sorry, my daughter being able to board her horse at Congressional School is way more important than you Yuptards in Arlington being safe from smart growth gentrification.

Why does all the growth have to be crammed into one tiny county?

Then there are the Arlington County Planners who live on North 32nd Street.

Arlington County Board Doesn't Listen...Except to Developers.

So, 15 months after we elected an Independent to the County Board we find the Independent votes the same way as his Democratic predecessor did.

Sleepy Hollow is full of large homes that are listing for $1.5 million and up, when they go on the market at all. The residents don't want to be f***** with by local pols.

Anonymous said...

After 15 months of an Independent on the County Board the Arlington Planning Commission had to be talked out of resigning in protest to the Rosslyn Sector Plan giveaway to developers last Monday.

Whatever Arlington "Planners" don't live in Fairfax County, Alexandria, DC, etc., live in North North-Arlington.

See any real diversity in the County Board's most-recent appointments to Arlington's advisory committees and commissions?

Then there are the Super Nimby Arlington Planners who live just across the line in McLean.

Real comment from an Arlington County Senior Planner today: "I grew up in Sleepy Hollow and Penny Gross is cool. We can f*** with your Arlington neighborhoods all we want to...just don't f*** with our and our parents' lives in Sleepy Hollow."

I had to visit 2100 Clarendon Blvd. yesterday to straighten out personal property tax matters on 2 vehicles. There are artist renderings of the "vibrant" Courthouse mixed use redevelopment in the lobby. The artists got it right...Courthouse will be a congested mess, like Rosslyn.

There is a major league Equestrian program at Congressional School, 5 miles from Arlington.

Obviously Mason District is populated by infidels who don't respect the teachings of Guru Hoskins.

If you liked the plans for streetcars moving down the middle of the Pike at 11 mph, you will love hundreds of bicycles moving down the middle of the Pike at 5 mph in five years.

I attended the Park and Recreation Commission meeting last night. Neighborhoods are very concerned about in-fill urbanization and the loss of open space.

Time is overdue for a moratorium on development and redevelopment.

Tried to talk with any of Arlington's so-called "Planners" about the massive urbanization they are "planning"? We're like children to them.

So who are responsible for problems turning into crises. Try Mary Hynes, Jay Fisette, and Walter Tejada.

Big fight Tuesday night at Fairfax County Government Center about Imposing Smart Growth on run down Seven Corners...where there were no upgrades in anything for the past 30 years.

Anonymous said...

More of the Smart Growth 3-Step:

Step 1 - Allow a building, neighborhood, shopping plaza, etc., to become run down because of lack of maintenance and upgrades.

Step 2 - Point to the neighborhood, building, shopping plaza, etc., as being run down

Step 3 - Invite the REITs in to impose Smart Growth on the whatever it is that's run down.

Penny Gross has been Mason District Supervisor for how many years?

Anonymous said...

When I bought a single family home I avoided any commercial / residential area that was not well maintained and regularly upgraded...they are magnets for New Urbanist rodents.

Anonymous said...

New Urbanist REITs are rodents who move into neighborhoods the elected rodents ignored for decades and, with the planning rodents, drive the middle class out and bring the millennial rodents in.

Anonymous said...

Like Penny Gross, Jay Fisette has been on a Board of Supervisors forever.

Anonymous said...

For the $1.9 million the County spent to demolish 3 affordable single family homes for less than an acre of parkland 19 small businesses could have been given zero interest $100,000 loans for makeovers.

Anonymous said...

Or, 190 condo and single family homeowners could have been granted $10,000 no-interest loans for upgrades like new windows.

Anonymous said...

What did Jay Fisette ever do or say about upgrading older infrastructure?

Anonymous said...

He's all for preserving a few luxury enclaves like the one where he lives.

Anonymous said...

For 18 years of Jay Fisette on the County Board the emphasis has been on the County funding more sports, recreation, and entertainment we now find ourselves in a 'crisis' over basic infrastructure.
