A.Y. sent two correspondents to cover the April 29th Westover Candidate's Debate, held at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Westover. The clear winner of the debate among County Board candidates was Audrey Clement, who was the only Independent among the County Board candidates (the others who attended are Democrats) and the only candidate with a clear, across-the-board vision of how to move the County Board, and the County forward -- cut taxes for residents and businesses, stop making bad give-away deals with real estate trusts, make County Government more resourceful so new small businesses can prosper. The Democratic County Board candidates continued to promote 'resumes rather than results'.
The two Democratic candidates for School Board - Sharon Dorsey and Reid Goldstein -- offered no significant solutions except to continue to 'muddle through' APS's problems related to the growth in school population.
One thing all the County Board candidates agreed on is 'The Arlington Way' is seriously broken.
It became obvious during the debate that Democratic candidates for anything in Arlington can't get beyond 'more of the same'. So Audrey Clement was a refreshing change.

I live down the street from Ashlawn School. Why does the soil erosion from the school's construction into Four Mile Run have to become a major campaign issue (School Board Chair James Lander is the person most responsible for the mess) before APS conforms to EPA soil erosion prevention guidelines?
Christian Dorsey and his fellow Abingdon SUV soccer parents are making a mess out of Abingdon School planning to the extent the school's neighbors have hired an attorney and are seriously considering taking APS to court.
Sharon Dorsey and Reid Goldstein were major disappointments last night
Collective groan from the local media - "What are we going to do about her this year? Ignore her again?"
Inside Nova Editor Scott McCaffrey has all but endorsed two Democrats for County Board and a Democrat for School Board.
Lander has ignored repeated reports of serious environmental problems at Ashlawn.
I am tired of Scott McCaffrey's antics. Since the last elections the newspaper / newsblog organization he works for has become the publisher of the base newspapers at Quantico and Belvoir and started charging for access to its on-line news. Why can't we have adult journalism from Inside Nova rather than the high school variety Scott McCaffrey produces?
Sun Gazette / Inside Nova Arlington is in its 'Democrat of the Day' mode until November 3rd.
Disappointed in Sharon Dorsey and Reid Goldstein now? Wait until one of them is elected.
Can anyone determine if what I heard about the Washington Post from several sources is accurate - the Post uses summer interns to evaluate local candidates for endorsement by the Post's Editorial Board?
Ashlawn School site has serious soil erosion problems that James Lander ignored. Neighborhood residents are furious.
The Arlington Way is seriously broken? LOL. Then why more charades like last night's Columbia Pike Future Forum aka Future Massive Smart Growth Gentrification of the Pike Corridor to Benefit the Plutocratic Elite?
Latest local government charade? Chamber of Commerce hosted candidates' forum at the taxpayer-funded Artisphere sponsored by the taxpayer funded Rosslyn BID. Tickets are $25.
Do persons in the audience who attend candidates forums even get to ask questions of the candidates anymore?
Most important thing that came out of this candidates' forum was statement from a woman in the audience who said that North Arlington residents move to North Arlington for a suburban, not urban, lifestyle. And why should Tejada, who lives in totally suburban Dominion Hills trash anyone for that?
Christian Dorsey and his Abingdon PTA buds have wasted at least $5 million of the $28 million budgeted for Abingdon on vanity parking lots and Abingdon PTA Parent SUV turn-rounds.
Arlington Way seriously broken? We get charged $25 to attend a "debate" where the Chamber's moderator asks the candidates questions pre-selected by the Chamber's board of directors? Duh.
Oh, and if questions are taken from persons in the audience they are pre-selected.
