Post, Local Media, Continue to Censor Bus Alternatives to Streetcars

Hi Yupette,

So, the County Board majority said NO to streetcars last week? Where are the information and photos about streetcar alternatives, like bus rapid transit, double deck buses, and high-capacity city buses?

Here's a short video:

And here's another:

Where are the local media? Obviously still shilling for dumb growth streetcars.

Never mind THEM. I want MY tax dollars spent on information about alternatives to streetcars on the Pike and in Crystal City. Don't see any information on the County's Web site and AVN? Call the Arlington County Board at 703-228-3130.

Media repeatedly printed the politrickster lies like bus rapid transit needs dedicated lanes.

Who are the racists?

Anti-streetcar folks only talk about how expensive, unsafe, and inefficient streetcars are.

Post prints report after report about dysfunctional African American families.

No brainer.

Yes...call the County Board at 703-228-3130 and ask when the County is going to start spending some of the dedicated transit funds on new ART bus routes.

New York City is going to spend massive amounts of money on bus rapid transit.

Anonymous said...

So much for the lies that articulated buses need dedicated lanes.

Anonymous said...

Let's start using all that dedicated transit funding for new and upgraded local bus routes.

Want to know what sucks? County employees spending thousands of hours hyping streetcars on ArlNow from their offices at 2100 Clarendon Blvd. These people don't even live in Arlington and get to micro-manage our lives without having to suffer any consequences of their bad decisions.

Earth to County Government. Not one more dime spent on streetcars !!! Show us what the latest models of articulated, double deck, and connector buses look like.

County Staff who live in Fairfax County and want streetcars should resign or retire and go work for C.Z at Smart Growth America. Inflict streetcars on another county.

Can you believe the Post Metro Section yesterday? High school newspapers have better reporting.

Patricia Sullivan lives in DC. Steve Hendrix lives in MD.

Anonymous said...

Post reporters are so clueless about Arlington they have to ask how to find Courthouse Plaza when they arrive at the Courthouse Metro Station.

Post's Editors are Latinos, BTW

Arlingtonians for Sensible Transit issued a press release yesterday calling for an upscale BRT system for the Pike and Crystal City, which would still cost hundreds of millions less than streetcars.

Earth to Patricia Sullivan -

Pentagon is South of Route 50, Ft. Meyer Hts is South of Route 50, Ft. Meyer is South of Route 50, Crystal City is South of Route 50, Pentagon City is South of Route 50, Arlington Ridge is South of Route 50, National Airport is South of Route 50, Shirlington Village is South of Route 50, Fairlington is South of Route 50.

Who controls the Post? Jeff Bezos and Amazon or Don Graham and Graham Family Holdings? Or both?

Anonymous said...

Don Graham and other members of the Graham Family have never liked Virginia.

Historically, Post Editors and Wash Post Corporation VIPs have lived in NW DC and Bethesda-Chevy Chase.

Earth to Post - Arlington's newest Taj Mahal high school with every conceivable student amenity just opened in South Arlington.

Other Taj Mahal schools in South Arlington are being planned or are under construction.

Gold-plated Aquatics Center would be South of Route 50, if it's ever constructed.

Arlington's million dollar bus shelter is South of Route 50, on Columbia Pike.

Anonymous said...

Upscale Potomac Yards with ZERO affordable housing is South of Route 50.

Anonymous said...

LOL...even the new wastewater treatment plant in South Arlington is gold-plated, cost $560 million.

I never heard Walter Tejada complain about all the unaffordable affordable housing he and his non-profit for-profit cronies are building on the Pike.

Sullivan and Hendrix were ordered by Post higher-ups to do a hatchet job on Arlington, just as the Post higher-ups ordered hatchet jobs to be done on Bill Cosby, Marion Barry, Vince Gray, the District's African-American population, and other people and groups the Post's hierarchy doesn't happen to like.

Anonymous said...

County's Web site arlingtonva.us has info about the Crystal City transitway construction.

Walter Tejada loves Arlington Mill...fewer than 20 apartments there are truly affordable.

Pike Rider 22204 said...

Why don't the Post reporters sit in on a few 'planning' sessions for so-called 'affordable' housing on the Pike? Only one or two Pike residents who actually live in market-rate housing on the Pike get to sit on the committees that do the 'planning'.

Anonymous said...

Post VIPs love Smart Growth "Resegregation through Gentrification".

Anonymous said...

Community 'planning' for Arlington Mill was done by Caucasians of Western European descent who live in adjacent neighborhoods of single family homes and condos.

The ACE bus was planned to give middle class casino and hotel workers a fast and comfortable ride from the outer suburbs where they live to downtown Vegas where they work.

I can't find any mention of North Arlington vs. South Arlingon racism in archived discussions about the streetcar in the local media, pro or con.

It's something the Post and others cooked up after the CB announced it was abandoning streetcars.

Anonymous said...

Post promotes "Resegregation through Gentrification" and goes after people who don't....Mayor Vince Gray, for example.

Anonymous said...

Post editors and staff reporters despise poor people and minorities.

Anonymous said...

Marion Barry is gone...Vince Gray is going...what's the Post to do?

Anonymous said...

Whomever control(s) the Post obviously want(s) streetcars everywhere. Patricia Sullivan writes what she's told to write.

Anonymous said...

At least Scott McCaffrey a) lives in Arlington and b) knows what the VIPs who run the County are up to because he's a VIP himself.

Anonymous said...

Patricia Sullivan is writing 'stories' based on selective reporting to support the biases of whomever controls the Post.

Anonymous said...

Streetcars are just another means to the end of complete urbanization of older suburbs by the New Urbanists. Post has supported Smart Growth 110%, nevermind the consequences.

Anonymous said...

Notice that Patricia Sullivan didn't interview anyone from Arlingtonians for Sensible Transit, even though AST put out a press release earlier this week with a comprehensive plan for bus rapid transit on the Pike.

Anonymous said...

Notice that Patricia Sullivan is trying to nail Libby Garvey with the Post's usual gotcha reporting.

Anonymous said...

Anyone who visits the AY blog knows that statements like "bus rapid transit involve buses that run in dedicated lanes" are not true.

Anonymous said...

Who's next on the Post's agenda? Muriel Bowser in DC and Libby Garvey in Arlington?

Anonymous said...

Can we see please see a photo of a BRT vehicle via the local media?

Anonymous said...

What is the matter with County Government?

Anonymous said...

They are all drinking out of the same bottle of 150 proof Streetcar Moonshine.

Anonymous said...

They bitch about "affordable housing" disappearing from the Pike if there is no streetcar on the Pike. Well, Jay Fisette and the rest have been redeveloping affordable housing into unaffordable housing for the past 15 years.

Anonymous said...

I thought the "Form Based Code" was supposed to preserve affordable housing on the Pike.

Look, Arlington Sheeple. Look. Look. The BRT bus is keeping up with traffic on a Downtown Vegas street.
