Hey Yupette,
Latest from the Arlington County Democratic Committee is Democratic 'Super Nimbys' like Jay Fisette have begun a campaign to categorize anyone who opposes in-fill of County and APS property with school infrastructure as 'Neighborhood Nuisances'.
That includes residents who live adjacent or near Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Abingdon Elementary School. Latest about Abingdon is not only will the open space adjacent to the school be converted to a lighted synthetic surface soccer field, but many, or most, of the native species hardwoods on the wooded slope between Abingdon School and the Trades Center will be cut down to 'facilitate'; Abingdon School's expansion. Of course, Jay has excepted his own Ashton Heights neighborhood from 'New Urbanism'.. So look for the usual gang of Arlington Democratic Committee 'Super Nimby' facilitators to be coordinating APS's school expansion projects.

'Super Nimby'? Like Carrie Johnson, who facilitates for ACDC from her home in Ashton Heights when she's not facilitating for ACDC from her second home, in Western Montana?
What will APS and County Government do about erosion if the unsightly trees on the steep hill between Abingdon School and the Trades Center are cut down? Spend $20 million to hire a Post Modernist architecture and engineering firm to build Post Modernist erosion control barriers?
I wouldn't put anything past John Chadwick and Scott Prisco.
Did anyone mention Post Modern architects? Who can't tear down late 20th Century Post Modern buildings fast enough so they can have their own 21st Century Post Modern buildings constructed in their place?
Completely typical of the New Urbanists (Zimmerman, Fisette, etc.) who control ACDC, which is in turn controlled by the REITs.
The County's Community Planning, Housing, and Development Department is completely corrupt.....Non-residents who can't do enough for the out-of-state REITs.
Deja vu Williamsburg...Abingdon parents have been promised a lighted synthetic soccer field with the $2 million or so 'left over' from Abingdon's renovation.
It gets worse, Abingdon will have an expanded parking lot, despite APS's supposed commitment to traffic mitigation. An elementary school built at TJ will have a large parking garage.
I talked with County Planning Staff about the implications of an elementary school at TJ. One staffer stated that "APS could give a rat's ass about the environment".
What CPHD does for the REITs APS does for K-12 outdoor sports.
Want to know the real reason School Board members resign before their terms of office are completed? Because they become sick and tired of having to cater to the wants of Arlington Democratic Committee members.
'APS could give a rat's ass about the environment'? Is that news? Why has the Reeves Farm environmental education center languished while soccer gets extravagantly funded?
I live in a condo adjacent to Abingdon School. Once again large groups are using Abingdon School's playing field for soccer and littering the grounds, to the extent that no one else can use the playing field. So what's in store for us? Another lighted soccer field that will be used 60 hours per week, March through November? Appears another deal has already been made with the soccer parents.
Barbara Kanninen and Nancy Van Doren are completely controlled by ACDC, and will do whatever ACDC tells them when elected to the School Board.
At least two School Board members recently quit because they refused to go along with more New Urbanism / Smart Growth which they saw as a no-win for APS.
People in charge in County Government, APS, and ACDC are educated white trash, that's why.
Meanwhile, Chris Zimmerman is laughing all the way to the bank.
Anyone know whether Chris Zimmerman owns a second home, hundreds of miles away from the nearest New Urbanism / Smart Growth?
Really appalling that the ACDC Machine micromanaged our lives for more than 30 years, with little interest by the local media, until the voters revolted in April.
New Urbanism is a cult / religion / belief system whose adherents don't live here (or if they do live here live in neighborhoods like Ashton Heights) and both impose their ideology on us and opt out of any adverse consequences. A win-win for the New Urbanists and a lose-lose for us.
Not only do the local media lime the Post ignore the activities of Arlington's corrupt Democratic Machine (e.g., Ballston-Rosslyn corridor overflowing with drugs, alcohol, and prostitution), but publish New Urbanist propaganda written by the likes of Jay Fisette as factual.
Why would anyone support a social and economic belief system which typically causes significantly greater residential density at significantly greater cost to residents with little or no quality-of-life improvements...unless you believe more bars and restaurants are quality-of-life improvements?
I completely resent the non-residents in County Government who inflict Smart Growth on us, get a big paycheck for doing so, don't pay local taxes, and will never suffer the consequences of their decisions and actions.
I sent an e-mail to APS's Assistant Sup for Facilites and Operations, John Chadwick, stating that we who live near Abingdon School DO NOT want soccer groups from everywhere in the region descending on Abingdon School evenings and weekends to play soccer and prevent Fairlington families from using the play area.
Does anyone in APS, DES, and Parks and Recreation who makes decisions about open space use and re-purposing in Arlington County live anywhere near Arlington County?
We desperately need a re-evaluation of the impacts of New Urbanism / Smart Growth on overall Quality-of-Life in Arlington.
I would have to be an Urban Village Idiot to vote for Alan Howze.
Do you want to know how much the residents of Fairlington who live in the larger units pay to live here....$10,000 to $11,000 per year, condo fees plus real estate taxes.
I live in the Ballston Zoo Neighborhood. Massive broken street and sidewalk pavement. The first Elitist neighborhood I want to see 'repurposed' into a sports and recreation area aka 'linear park' via "Complete Streets' is Ashton Heights.
In the meantime, I'm just going to ride my bike around Ashton Heights on weekends. Let the Super Nimbys call the cops and report me as a 'suspicious person' as they do for the minorities they see.
