Parents of Students with Autism Beg While APS Spends Extravagantly on Sports

 Hi Yupette,

Anyone else watch what occurred at last night's School Board Meeting? Bunch of parents of kids with autism attended and begged and pleaded with the School Board to restore $270,000 in proposed cuts to APS's autism programs. It's common knowledge that the number of children diagnosed with autism is increasing. Same Arlington Public School System that can't spend enough on sports and activities that have little to do with education? And I thought the Arlington County Board's priorities are inverted!

Instead of begging to have funds restored and increased to educate APS students with autism parents should be demanding the resignation of  Superintendent Patrick Murphy and the retirement of  School Board members who support Murphy's recreation-socialization-remediation agenda.

School Board meetings are run like Kiwanis meetings. Parents go along with it? Why?

Doctor Murphy earned a Ph.D. in Recreation, that's why.

Despicable that parents of autistic children were put through this...over $270,000 in a $500 million budget.

Patrick Murphy and the School Board should apologize to the autistic students' parents.

Patrick Murphy should be Vice President for Sports Education at a major league university.

What can you expect? They couldn't move fast enough when it came to building a softball field. How long did it take for parents and others to raise the funds to restore the planetarium?

Folks, they are locked into New Urbanist B.S. along with the reset of County Government. Critical thinking? What critical thinking? Where is Smart Growth taking the School System? Don't worry, be happy, spend more on sports and activities that have nothing to do with education. Of COURSE the Supe and School Board don't care about special needs education. They don't really care about education. If you don't believe it go to the next open house at Wakefield H.S. and see what was spent on sports and activities what was spent on the dismal classrooms.

What a bunch of politricksters. Noah Simon is the worst.

Can someone tell me where spending for sports and activities that have nothing to do with education is buried in the APS FY 15 budget?

Anyone know the approximate number of concussions suffered by APS students last year while playing team sports?

Sun Gazette Editor Scott McCaffrey should also apologize to the parents of students with autism who attended last night's school board meeting. These parents are already under a lot of stress and for him to imply the parents' requests are excessive was irresponsible.

BTW, at least 30% of the Sun Gazette is dedicated to covering high school sports.

APS is so bad that anyone that does a reality check on their School Board Meeting Hugfest is called an anti-social nutcase by the Arlington Democratic Committee's APS Facilitators.

Pat Murphy badly needs to be in charge of the total sports program in an ACC university.

$270,000 in a $500,000,000 budget? Do the math.

We just voted for a change in County Government, why are we having to vote for another Democrat on the School Board who will take his or her orders from ACDC Central Command?

Pat Murphy is building a resume' for a big promotion.

ACDC Central Command --- you got that right.

If the Democratic School Board cared about autistic students the School Board would have INCREASED the FY 15 budget by $270,000 to educate autistic students.

It would be interesting to find out how much APS spends on litigation and attorney fees while trying to prevent special needs students from getting services. According to APS they don't pay attorney fees. I know a lot of attorneys but have yet to meet one who doesn't get paid!

APS violates the IDEA but for whatever reason they get away with it.
Those with children who have special needs should never locate to this county. The educational prospects are dismal. I know of several cases where parents have left Arlington because of the school system does such a terrible job with their children. And I think that's just the tip of the iceberg,

So, the APS-Arlington Democrat Team really cares about education? Then, why is the Reeves Farm Environmental Education Center put on constant hold? Because APS needs more every year for Sports Education.

Why doesn't every educational organization in the region just nominate Coach Murphy as "Sports Educator of the Year" and kick him upstairs to be VP for Sports Education at an ACC university? Win-Win...for us and him.

Parents: Stop the hug fest with your children's oppressors at every School Board meeting! Demand responsibility and accountability from the School Board!
